I just found out how cheaply made the maverick is made. Today I topped a steep bridge overpass to find a huge chunk of 18 wheeler tire in my lane. Was way to late to avoid it, sounded like I’d hit a bomb. Was able to keep control and pull over at end of the bridge to look at damage. Under body protective cover half ripped from the floor pan and vapor canister dragging on road and paint chipped all along lower side panels. When I say protective cover ripped from underbody I mean ripped the studs(which look like 1/8 bolts spot welded to bottom of floor pan are ripped almost completely off and there are holes in the floor pan. Floor pan is paper thin. The protective cover’s mounting holes are ripped out. Check engine light is on. Mechanic at ford dealer says likely due to vapor canister is destroyed. I do know the mounting points on canister is broke off. Amazingly. The Mav stills run fine and tracks strait down road with no vibration or shimmy as I was able to safely drive it to the local ford dealer for them to look. Estimated cost to repair $1000. There goes my fuel savings for next 2-3 years. I think my mav was mad at me because I mentioned trade for a 1st edition at a nearby dealer.

My son's Freightliner semi had a blown tire recently. Destroyed hood, DEF, steps, wiring and other components. $20,000+ and 5 weeks to get back. Cost him a lot of loads, $$$. Think Ford builds Freightliners?

That is terrible, tough luck. This is the second thread I have read here recently about damage to the vapor canister. Sure glad I got the FX/4 with those skid plates. At the time I was thinking the skid plates would be valuable off road, now I am thinking just as valuable on road.

I’ll try to take pictures when I take it back to my ford dealer to have repaired. It’s mostly all under the car so it’ll need to be on rack. They said it’d be maybe a month before they can get to it. They are ones that said it would run about $1000 very little outter body damage just a half dozen or so paint chips.

Have you checked your FX4. I looked at one while I was there at dealer as I was going to have them replace my underbody shields but the FX4 had the same kind as my lariat.

$1000 is wishful thinking. My sister's '22 Edge got rear ended last week, the initial estimate is at $20K,,,,,

Once I got the muffler ratchet-strapped up, it drove away just fine.

That’s the estimate my Ford dealer gave me.

I used to work for a fleet of transfer dumps and it's never pretty when one of their tires blow.

See all kinds of stuff in the middle of the road where I live too. Had to stop more times than I can count and walk back to remove debris. It's pretty bad. Usually animal's though. But sometimes that's all it takes... a piece of bone or something small to cause a major accident. I refuse to be one of the drivers on the road to just pass stuff by like that. Especially on rural single lane highways. I'd rather pull off and walk a quarter mile back to the debris through the woods if I have to. Sorry this happened to you. That truck it was from should have policed their debris even if it went back a mile.

Anyways, will insurance cover you?

Don't have it yet, in production at the moment. Someone here commented that one of the skid plates covers the canister. Is that a wrong thought? They gotta cover something important or what would be the point? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Two of the thinner carpet liners down the sides and the metal ones are up front and only go as far back as the oil pan. It's not all metal.

Sounds like I should dig out my carbon fiber sheets and the Epoxy and reinforce the cheap under plate. I'm sure if they can protect the underside of a dirt bike, it should help the truck.

They call those semi truck tire tread sections “Alligators”.

I hit one with a higher end car than the Maverick. It tore things up pretty good.

Unless your in a big truck with heavy duty components those things can wreck havoc with your vehicle.

I’d say the Maverick faired as good as any vehicle in its class with one of those things.

Well, that does not make me giggle. My Ranger FX/4 had a plate for the Xfer case and one for the gas tank and the cannister was way up in front of the spare tire above the rear axle. My wife asked me one day if I could find a brand new or super low mileage 2005 Ranger FX/4 would I buy that instead of the Maverick. Without thinking twice I would. Keep it simple stupid describes those old Rangers.
