Upon reflection, I wonder if they should have named the Maverick, the "Recallaholic". It just can't stop reaching for another recall.

Maverick IS the Ranchero. It was just given the wrong name.
The Maverick looks too much like a truck to be a ranchero. Mechanically, however it meets the criteria in that everything under the surface is pretty much car (CUV) like based. I hate to say it, but the SC is probably more like what a Ranchero would look like. Most likely another reason we won't even get a four door one.

With all the buzz on small trucks and retro / nostaglic autos do you think there is a market for a Maverick based Ranchero?

If that was proportioned a little differently with a slightly larger cab I would have seriously considered it over the Mav. With my back I need a seat I can recline a good bit, it makes sitting for a long time in my actual 1972 Ranchero an issue.

The only thing I like in that whole photoshop image is the ole school Wheels. Love me some Crager SS Wheels. The whole proportion of that pic is out of wack :puke:
The whole Ranchero/El Camino just seemed to be a fairly small niche market back in the day imo. But there are a hot item for some folks. Different strokes for different folks.

I would almost call the Maverick a modern day Ranchero as it is.

Maverick was a car. Ranchero was also a car; but with a pickup bed. Which one seems most like this new unibody pickup? I guess the bed size is closer to the original Maverick.

Ranchero started with a full frame, then switched to unibody, and then switched back to full frame for the rest of its life.

I think El Camino always had a frame.

Back then, making a different version was cheap. I read a whole book about the Ranchero. It was introduced primarily because it was cheap. Ford was looking for an extra body style to sell to set off the insane expenses they incurred for the Skyliner retractable hardtop.

For the '57 Ranchero, they only had to make two body panels, I think. But making a new body style now requires crash testing, and just engineering the thing would cost a lot. Chopping off the rear of the passenger area would likely require a bunch of structural analysis, and the small roof likely wouldn't do well in rollovers.

But the main thing is, it is known in advance that the vehicle would be for a tiny niche market. There'd be no return on the investment.
That makes sense. Didn’t think about all the crash test requirements.
It will never happen in the US.
Who wants a two-door small cab none reclining ramrod straight bench seat that has no room to recline. Folks have gotten to accustomed to having bucket seats that are individually adjustable.
2 door cab/ straight bench / no recline or in can storage / crank windows and I smile every time I drive it. 😊. I get more comments with a base 89 Ranger than almost any car I’ve ever owned. Looks like we won’t see a std can p/u unless someone wants a Slate… 🤣

Maverick is a name that Ford can apply to anything it wants and thankfully, they reused it for this wonderful little truck and kept Ranchero in the history books next to such luminous names as Pinto and Galaxie....right where those names need to stay.

What's wrong with Galaxie? (Also, they offered a Galaxy minivan in Europe or the UK.)

The plan was 50 year anniversary of the Maverick name and $1,995 / $19,995. COVID changed plans by a few years.
