Those Damn Maverick Drivers!!

This happened to me yesterday. Here in Asheville we get tons of tourists who are lost and making bad panic decisions at the wheel. So a right turn from the left lane is pretty normal here. Turning signals? What are those?

A few years ago I witnessed an accident a bit like this at an interstate exit. There was one travel lane at a 4-way with a big shoulder on the right. Person in the travel lane had no signal. Another driver pulled up on the right shoulder to turn right, and the guy in the travel lane turned right into him. I'd love to know who was assigned fault for that one. Betcha the guy in the travel lame swore to the trooper his signal was on. I was a bad citizen and didn't stick around as a witness.

Greetings from Hendersonville. Amen to your post. The tourists, halfbacks, Floridiots, etc can all leave for the winter now so we can have some peace.

[Chirp attempt update…]

Once we were all done with obligatory gak at Dealer, wife left 1st for home in her Escape, I found the back lot and went a bit crazy for 5-minutes: straight line hole-shots to hard stop, tight figure 8’s around light poles, unsuccessful donuts and attempts to ‘chirp’ the tires. I’m certain the HAL 9000 chips wanted to ask “WTF are you doing Dave?” Didn’t know there’s a Traction Control…

1st tune played from the USB as I exited the Dealership, selected ‘just because’, was REO’s “Let me ride”, the rear vision deck showing deformation from dB and bass levels. All good!

The person who took the video was not a kind/great driver either. It’s true the Mav driver wasn’t driving great and turned his blinker on late (lost maybe?) but a little kindness would have let him in and a little anticipation would have seen what was happening and Given more space.

My understanding is that the video was made from the 18 wheeler most likely as part of a security/traffic cam system. Not a lot of leeway when starting a tractor-trailer from a stop and turning. Lots going on in that cab to keep the driver busy. I give no blame to the tractor driver.

Traction control OFF!

Makes perfect sense. Maverick is definitely a puzzle that takes more than one of us to figure out. But, then, that's the fun of having one and being a member.

My neighborhood has a bunch of traffic circles. They are CLEARLY marked as "one way" (counter-clockwise) and have yield signs for the roads entering the circle. There are even nice "arrow" signs clearly showing that you must merge into the traffic circle, then exit at one of the other streets... Simple, right? Not so fast!

Twice recently, we've seen an idiot driving a Jeep turn left into the oncoming circle traffic, pass to the left of the lane divider for the street he was turning into (the left lane from his perspective, but actually the oncoming traffic lane of the 2-lane road). He not only went head-on with the traffic already in the circle, but head-on into the oncoming traffic of the divided road he turned into. Had to go head-on with that traffic for a 1/2 block before the divider ended so he could get over into the "right" (correct) lane. And never once let off the throttle... Actually flipped off the car in front of me that honked at him! Amazing...

Gotta be DUI for pulling that kind of stunt. "Let's be careful out there".
