Increased cost of new cars and increase cost of parts (6 out 10 foreign) will contribute to continued increase in car insurance. Cost of owning a car will rise at a steep rate. The good news.......... cannot think of any!!!:unsure:;)
Don't forget taxes. Sales tax AND annual property tax here.

I am sure a lot of you weren't born when we had the inflation in the late 70's. That is when the term sticker shock came from. in 1975 a nice car was $5k, by 1980 it was $10k. In 1977 we had a special order F-350 crew cab 4x4 delivered to the dealership with a $10 k window sticker and we thought no one would be able to buy anything. Prime rate was 20%.
I was building houses at that time and paid as much as 24% interest. Discovered that it was not so much the interest rate that was bad but the amount of time you paid it. Over 90-95% of builders either could not borrow anything or did not want to. Sub contractors were johnny on the spot and I caught electrician helping plumber to finish top out so he could wire house. Subs saw each other at coffee shop and scheduled their times. When I went to job site sometimes I would feel "in the way". One job was completed in 78 days. Closed it on 80th day taking sellers home in trade. Assigned ownership at closing to 3rd party rental company. Made almost 72% of desired profit on new home mainly due to fact that I had title company pay for unbilled materials and labor. (Allowed me to sign affidavit at closing that I had provided funds for costs incurred during construction). Actually paid 24% interest on about 1/3 of construction cost for about 45 days.

Ohhh! I thought Mark1 was from your name but now it appears to be related to your ranking on car dealer salesman spreadsheet.

The members of congress and one political party loosing their minds over tariffs (aka taxes) and the potential increases in costs of things is kind of a joke. Have they forgotten how over taxed people already are and it is of no concern to them? And massive effort to reduce spending (comes from taxes) is met with the craziest of resistance and the idea we can't do without all that spending (yes, tax revenue). Yes, things are being shaken up, but I expect things will level out in the near future, including the tariff issue in general.

I'm confused. Are you implying that there is a US political party that hasn't lost its collective mind???

It's about the future of Ford's "inexpensive little truck." Automobile prices are expected to rise as a result of recent actions in Washington. Numbers like $4,000 to $10,000 increases in some vehicles may be seen.
The NYTimes today reported that "rather than vastly increasing the price of specific vehicles, the industry is likely to spread increases across all types — “like peanut butter” — to smooth out the price increases, said Tyson Jominy, vice president of data and analytics at the market research firm J.D. Power. Mr. Anderson said manufacturers would 'almost certainly cut back' on models that became significantly more expensive."
As a player in a specific niche of the car market, I wonder where this leaves the Maverick?
I'm gonna run around in circles waving my arms and wail. Or, kick back with a nice local microbrew and not worry about it.

Fords got major problems of it's own with it's vehicles and the Maverick that have already caused a decline in sales. QUALITY AND OVER PRICING add ons.

BYD Hyndia, Kia build better EVs and Hybrids. Ford has the most Recalls in the last 2 years and in the history of Recalls. Since the 80s, American autos have been bottom of the barrel. Tarrifs / taxes won't help them. I love this truck but I regret purchasing it due to all it's issues. The first vehicle I've owned that I'm worried about what will go wrong next!
Only recall I received in the last year was for the backup camera that I haven't addressed yet. Otherwise, no issues but I do have a friend that had some issues (since taken care of).

It does make sense, but the real question is whether rumors (from where) become actual investments building something resembling an affordable vehicle in the USA.

Automakers learned very quickly circa 2020-2022 when there were shortages of components that they could stop producing low margin vehicles, and profits only went up. When they all do that, and new competition is effectively locked out, it becomes a captive market.
Why would any vehicle manufacturer go through moving a foreign plant here when the genius who is doing this is indeed not stable and vacillates weekly???? Corporations and investors abhor the unknown because they cannot reasonably analyse the risks. My two cents!!
