I don't get the people complaining about false advertising. They say it's a full size tire and it is. It's rated for highway use and it's on a 17" rim. If Ford had said it was a same size or identical spare then I guess that would make sense. But they didn't.
By your logic they could have provided a bicycle tire. It is a full size spare - for a bicycle.

To me it means the same rubber as the other four. It's not even the same brand of tire though. Obviously it's the cheapest Chineseum crap Ford could buy and still think they could get away with calling it "full size" and up charging for it.

I tried a 235/65R17 spare but doesn’t fit :( I think a 225/65 might but going to be close.

Will a 225/65R17 fit on the spare rim with the donut tire? If I want to replace the donut, what rim should I purchase to replace it since it is easy to get another Pirelli that matches the ones on the truck and then I will have a true spare? I should state I have an XLT AWD FX4 with a nice rim, not a piece of steel.

I ordered the full-size spare -- knowing it wasn't actually "full-sized". At least it got me a full-sized spare wheel. I then picked up a like-new GY Assurance tire (235/65) on Marketplace for $25. I had DT dismount the small tire, and mount the new 235/65 tire today ($31). It's currently under my Maverick -- resting on top of the puncture plate. So, I'm $171 in, for a true full-sized spare. I hope to sell the the OE tire for a few $.

All this crying... that spare is awesome. It sure beats a can of Fix-a-flat that most cars have now.

$115 is reasonably cheap just for the rim. If the tire triggers you, put a different tire on it.

Beats the hell out of a doughnut. Imagine getting a flat stuck in the middle of nowhere while towing your trailer and realizing you can't tow the trailer anymore because you are on the doughnut.

That's what the full sized spare prevents. Also, it appears that it's now included with the towing package on the xl and xlt.

The FSS is 10mm smaller than standard steelies, which would also look weird with non-XL wheels. It looks exactly the same as the regular steelies. I think it's a great value, liked having it a lot when I got a flat 4 hours from home. Now cranking that damned scissor jack was quite the ordeal tho... Also figuring out you had to pull the wheel all the way out from under the truck to take the stupid cone off was no fun.

Been running that spare tire for 5000km now. It drives fine but yeah because of the size it slips often.
I’m getting a new set planning to put the old continental pro contact tx on the spare wheel then mount it underneath. Did anyone have any issues mounting it underneath? Since the tire is bigger any fitment issues or anything?

My 2017 F-150 has a spare the same size as the original tires. Of course, it's 4WD and you don't want different diameter tires mixed on a truck with 4WD. Very hard on the drive train when you put it in 4WD and/or lock the back differential.
