I'll lead off with the conclusion: Objects with a little weight to them (little shoes, sippies, small toys) hitting the rear seat floor make a hollow thump very similar to the bass-y pop of a speaker receiving an electrical surge.
I've had the Maverick for a week now and in that time I kept hearing random little bass thumps from my speakers, or at least that's what immediately came to my mind the first couple times hearing them.
I started keeping mental notes of when they occurred because I knew if I was eventually going to take it in to the dealership, I would need to be able to tell them how to replicate it if I wanted any chance of it getting fixed.
The frustrating part was, it never happened when I was driving by myself, when I could really focus, turn the music up, and try different songs and methods to pin point the issue.
Finally, yesterday with the whole family in the truck, I heard two quick little thumps and it clicked for me to ask my five year old if she just kicked off her shoes, to which she said yes. Whew!!
Just to confirm, the next time we got in the truck I told her to kick off her shoes and I heard the thumps that have been torturing me.
The kids dropping something in the back have never produced a sound like this in any other previous vehicle so it didn't even cross my mind, but I'm extremely relieved that I don't have to go through the hassle of getting warranty work done through the dealership.
I know this is likely an issue that not many have experienced but I know I'm not the only one with kids in the back and if I had stumbled across this story before I figured it out, I would have felt a wave of relief. So hopefully my discovery helps someone else.
