I nominate this as the most honest Maverick compliment of 2022. Brought to you by the folks at Savage Geese, who brightened my day earlier this year with a review titled "Everything is Forgiven at $20,000". Oh, and they love the hybrid and Ecoboost both - for different reasons.

Jump to 8:05 for the Maverick...

I didn’t take offense to their comments. They’re right that we need more cheap vehicles like maverick. Average vehicle price is now $46k

Remember the CRX, VW Fox and other little simple cars from the 80s/90s? I'd love to have something like that as an option.

My first car I bought new was a 2002 Dodge Neon. I paid $12,000 off the lot. It had cruise and power everything.

You can't get a used truck tire for $12,000.

CRX, yes Fox, not so much :)

But I agree with what you are saying. There needs to be affordable transportation for the masses. Nobody needs an 84 month car loan!

I had a 98, 99 neon then a 2003 neon SRT4 (I sold for this truck) 10k,12k,19k respectively. The last one is a blast.

I had a 2000 Neon with the only thing powered being the transmission my father gave me. The 2002 was my gift to me after joining the Army. I traded it to get the '05 Dakota.

Best little run of vehicles I ever had and back when Chrysler wasn't run by complete morons.

Didn't one variant of the Neon have the best power to weight ratio of any production vehicle (at the time) because it was so light?

You must have gotten a pretty good deal on the Neon. A 2002 Neons MSRP did start at $12K but that didn't include a lot of options that are standard today.

From autoblog.com

LINEUP
Neons now start at $12,240, but air conditioning ($1,000), side-impact airbags ($350), and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes ($595) are all extra-cost options on the base model.

Neon comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 132 horsepower, connected to five-speed manual transmission. A four-speed automatic transmission ($825) is a new option for 2002, replacing the three-speed automatic that was offered previously.
In 2002 a nicely optioned Neon was closer to $15K which if you account for inflation comes out to about $25K today.

End of MY discounts were more aggressive at the time. I bought my 2002 in 2003.

Man, I can't even remember the last time I even saw a Neon! I thought they were pretty cool back in the day.

I agree there.

That being said 12k in 2002 is the same as about 20k today

My 2003 XL 2.3L single cab ranger was 13k in 2003 so that checks out about to what a 2023 XL Mav would be plus a bit. (And the Mav is much much nicer than that bare basic)
