I’m just going to jump in feet first and ask a few questions.

Ford Maverick Thanks for the add! Orange you glad I’m here! IMG_7148
What does it take for a Ford Maverick build to get noticed by aftermarket brands?

I’m working on a Maverick project with a strong theme and documenting it along the way. My goal is to build something unique enough that vendors want to be part of it.

For those with experience—what gets a company’s attention? And for any vendors lurking—what do you actually look for before jumping in?

Your truck looks great and got me thinking I haven’t seen the MTC member with the “Tonka” themed truck in awhile 🤔

I have no idea but IMO the forum member "M-ervin" is the king of the custom mavericks so far (to me). If he hasn't gotten some attention from aftermarket suppliers, heck even Ford, I don't know what would, scroll through this thread

Welcome to the forum!

I used to be a design engineer in aftermarket parts, and a couple of my (nearly-stock) vehicles have been in catalogs. I've seen friends and acquaintances sacrifice serious time and money in pursuit of attention or adrenaline. Free products are cool, but car parts aren't currency that I can invest in retirement or pay my bills with. Often, the effort to get free stuff is more costly, in its own way, than just buying it.

I don't know your financial situation, skills, or passions -- that's not my business. But I would strongly encourage you to think deeply about your life goals, and about what your goal is for the "build".

If you want attention, there are countless cheaper and easier ways to get a hit of dopamine. The feeling is fleeting. If you want free products, your time is probably better spent driving for Uber on the side to buy them instead.

There have been a couple paid shills here, but many more have dumped piles of cash into their (genuinely cool) trucks with zero sponsorship.

Sponsorship is not directly correlated to how cool/unique/modified a vehicle is. Fundamentally, sponsorship is a business decision. You must provide significantly more value than the part is worth - either in quantifiable advertising value, or product development value. And it helps to know the right people.

So it can be easy to get very cheap products like a plastic accessory off Amazon. It doesn't take much to earn a free $10 item. But it can be hard to get something worth hundreds or thousands.. very hard.

TL;DR Here are my thoughts on how to get sponsored. I genuinely don't think it's worth the cost, and I'm glad to have (mostly) walked away from this lifestyle.
  • Have a personal connection
    • Be an employee or friend of the decision makers at the company
  • Provide significant value for new product development
    • Have the engineering ability and resources to support development
    • Or be in the right place at the right time -- live down the street from the company, and be the first person to respond if they ever publicly request a vehicle. Trust them to take apart your truck multiple times over the course of months or even years, without breaking anything, before you can take home the product.
  • Provide significantly more value in advertising than the part is worth
    • Have a large, strong social media following
    • Be influential and contribute positively to communities
    • Have a list of trade shows and major car shows that your vehicle is already accepted into and committed to attending. Ideally, you'll leverage your network to have the vehicle already featured in a company's booth.

We have a few Diamond Sponsors here who have many products and ideas for a build. If you' re looking to be sponsored, that's a much more difficult pathway in terms of you spending the time and effort to convince a company to invest in you and your Maverick.

A long post does not equate to AI. I have plenty of my own words to constructively contribute to this thread.

I spent the formative years of my career in an environment where too many people acted in ways that were more like addicts, rather than hobbyists. I'll take the time to write a long post if I think it can help others avoid throwing away their time and money too.

Also, OP's truck is Orange Fury, not Cyber Orange.

Congrats! I'm afraid, as you're already seeing, the crowd here will be unable to refrain from taking shots at your choice of color, but *I* like it!
