interesting. the twist DID tighten up my driver side cable...but now the passenger side cable is the side thats loose. removing the twisted cable makes it pop out at you and untwist itself.

i am just going to leave everything back to the original position, pretend i never tried to fix it, find an excuse to open the tailgate in front of the Ford dealer service guy....and finally ask the dealer if its normal.
A simple test under load.
If you can, post a picture of how much slack there is in the cables when the tailgate has a couple hundred pounds on it.
Example, someone sitting in the center of the tailgate should be the easiest.
That should show if there's enough slack to worry about.

What are the 4 ways?
I'm guessing...1. Tail gate down normally. 2. Cable's on the half way pins. 3. Cables off...tailgate bent down. 4. Tailgate all the way off the truck. I know I've got 2 out of 4.... :p :p :p

Thank you. i feel better about it now. its like it just doesn't want to do any work until it absolutely has to. glad i didnt complain about it to the dealer and trigger a national recall :)

the driver side cable was the slack side:
- i sat right next to the cable and it tightened up.
- i sat in the middle and the cable still tightened up.
- i sat right next to the passenger side cable and the driver side cable was not nearly as tight as the passenger side cable, but it did tighten up enough to make me feel better about it.

Great, I'm glad my suggestion resolved the issue for you.

Be safe and take care.

Thanks. I have measured cables and they are the same length — The upper pins are not the same though, one is 1/2” higher.
The dealership told me all 2025 Mavericks are made that way?? I just can’t understand the logic in that. I did try and contact Ford Company with no response
Is the latch in the tailgate also 1/2" higher on that side?

I'll get pics out in a couple weeks after I get back home from extended spring break vacation...
Took pics of the 4 different ways i have found for the tailgate…

also, checked how taut each cable was when tailgate is in full down position.. both are about the same, but neither very taut. Maybe tats because i have deezee tailgage dampener installed.

I have used all the cable positions except the one below. Maybe it’s just me but it does not look too secure if you hit a speed bump etc.
