Tailgate auto lock Installed for XL

Anyone knows if it's possible to add auto locking on a XL tailgate?

OK my fellow XL owners. I was able to install a generic door actuator from Amazon ($10)in my tailgate. https://amzn.to/32VLu75

I removed the wiring harness from the b pillar and found the two wires needed for the installed. You will need to tap the white/brown and green/brown wires.

I ran the wires tailgate thru the access hole behind the rear seats.

For the actuator...I mount using an existing hole on the tailgate and a bracket that came with the kit. I used the connecting adapter from the kit to clamp on to the latch lever. I drilled a hole thru the adapter so I connect the connecting rod. I cut and blend the rod 90 degree and fitted into the hole. connected the wires...bam....power tailgate lock. This is a good stop gap solution for me until I'm able to find OEM actuator.

They make aftermarket kits for other Ford truck models so I'm sure they're applicable to the Maverick or will be. Once Ford releases some halfway decent parts diagrams I am going to try and get it working with factory hardware.

I started doing some research and didn't really find anything yet. hopefully more info will come out soon as this is one of the last features I really wanted on my XL.

I don’t see why you couldn’t add it. It was a dealer installed option on my XLT. Look for power running into the tailgate. If you have power already in the tailgate should be plug and play

Locking tailgate is a standard feature on the XLT, or do you mean it locks after a set amount of time even if you don't lock the truck?

It was clearly listed as a $40 dealer installed option on my Window Sticker. Not standard equipment.

A manual/insert key lock was standard on my XLT. It now locks with the doors.

Just to be clear, I am referring to power lock being a dealer installed option. Not manual.

Must be a US vs Canada thing. Ford.ca lists power locking tailgate as standard on XLT. Power tailgate is listed on your sticker under standard features too. Looks like the dealer took you for a ride, or they put on that little lock thing on the tailgate that helps prevent theft.

That $40 charge is 100% the McGard Tailgate lock that prevents people from removing the tailgate without a key.

Yeah, it even shows on the sticker up above in Standard Equipment - Exterior section "Power Tailgate Lock." Easy thing to mix up. It's funny how our eyes deceive us! Happens to me all the time.

Yes. When you lock or unlock with the key fob, the tailgate will do the same.

Not sure why this hasn't received more attention but well done. This is almost a necessity for me, since this will be used for my side business my tools and materials will be kept in the bed so I need to make sure the tailgate is always locked and having the piece of mind of knowing that it locks with the lock button on the remote is nice.

A few thoughts I have:

1. I would imagine there is parts interchangeability between the tailgate lock actuator from other Ford products, especially the Ranger.

2. I have to imagine that there is a dummy plug somewhere that a harness for the tailgate lock plugs into. Maybe someone with an XLT or Lariat can trace the harness back from their tailgate and see where it plugs into?
