Tailgate auto lock Installed for XL

Anyone knows if it's possible to add auto locking on a XL tailgate?

OK my fellow XL owners. I was able to install a generic door actuator from Amazon ($10)in my tailgate. https://amzn.to/32VLu75

I removed the wiring harness from the b pillar and found the two wires needed for the installed. You will need to tap the white/brown and green/brown wires.

I ran the wires tailgate thru the access hole behind the rear seats.

For the actuator...I mount using an existing hole on the tailgate and a bracket that came with the kit. I used the connecting adapter from the kit to clamp on to the latch lever. I drilled a hole thru the adapter so I connect the connecting rod. I cut and blend the rod 90 degree and fitted into the hole. connected the wires...bam....power tailgate lock. This is a good stop gap solution for me until I'm able to find OEM actuator.

If I tried that my left blinker would never turn off. Oh wait, I drive around like that anyway. Nevermind

Not sure why this hasn't received more attention but well done. This is almost a necessity for me, since this will be used for my side business my tools and materials will be kept in the bed so I need to make sure the tailgate is always locked and having the piece of mind of knowing that it locks with the lock button on the remote is nice.

A few thoughts I have:

1. I would imagine there is parts interchangeability between the tailgate lock actuator from other Ford products, especially the Ranger.

2. I have to imagine that there is a dummy plug somewhere that a harness for the tailgate lock plugs into. Maybe someone with an XLT or Lariat can trace the harness back from their tailgate and see where it plugs into?

Thanks. I feel the same way. This is important feature for me to have. Hopefully someone with XLT can help us out. I have a friend that recently picked up his XLT. Going to ask him if I can open up his tailgate and investigate.

It was clearly listed as a $40 dealer installed option on my Window Sticker. Not standard equipment.

A manual/insert key lock was standard on my XLT. It now locks with the doors.

Just to be clear, I am referring to power lock being a dealer installed option. Not manual.

The 40 dollar tailgate lock is attached on the hinge of the tailgate to keep people from stealing it.

I was able to check out my friends XLT tailgate. Looks like the part number is jb3b431f94ad. However, I'm not able to find much with a quick google search. Part number only shows up in oversea sellers.

I found the ford part, its called the controler Part #: 9943170 But there is no wiring. I called ford but its still so new so they dont have any info. Does anyone know what the wiring is I hope its plug and play right in the tailgate so I dont have to run wiring all over the place.

Could you explain how or what the Amazon purchased actuator rod attaches to on the original XL tailgate lock mechanism inside the tailgate?

I ordered these two from Tascaparts. It was super easy and took me 15 minutes. All you have to do is replace the XL factory harness located above the spare tire and remove the tailgate panel. Then, remove the manual lock and replace it with the remote control lock. Finally, connect the remote control lock to the new harness.

I should have taken some photos, but I found a YouTube video that I followed.
