I like the upgrade you did especially the spoiler on the tailgate. I wish that there was a section in the odometer that would tell you lifetime electric miles. Luckily one of my trip one or trip two I started as soon as I got it from the dealership so I'm able to track it that way but the second I have to restart the battery it's going to be gone
Thanks! If the cab spoiler didn't point upwards so much (and maybe came body colored) I might have considered that as well but I feel like it might be detrimental for my MPGs?

Also doing the same for the odometer, planning to leave trip 2 on until at least my first oil change. Maybe should remember to take a photo before I reset it :)

My combo was a
2017 C-Max hybrid and a 2003 S-10. = 2023 Lariat Lux Hybrid with BAP+ more garage space.
That's awesome and looks great in your profile pic! Great minds!

Did the speaker swap make a huge noticeable difference??
I wouldn't say huge, but it is noticeable to me and was worthwhile for the low price and effort compared to bringing in another amp etc. Particularly on tracks with lower bass tones, it's hitting those lows more authoritatively than the 6x9 was and now feels more well rounded with the rest of the speakers.

I have bass at 100%, mids 15% and treble at 0% and faded to right behind the front seats so I don't get blasted by the front speakers and can run the volume at 20 comfortably. Prior to the swap I felt like I needed to get the volume to 25-30 to get a reasonable amount of bass tone and it still wasn't hitting some of those lows right.

Those look nice, I'll admit that I've been carrying around a cheap Tac-force I found at a flea market for a while 😂 Maybe my wife will find this thread and get me an upgrade.

The JBL differences could be in the passenger car versus crew cab setup? I found the system in the Prius to be much less fatiguing on my ears when I bumped up the volume to get the bass where I wanted it to be.

I'm sure the B&O is fine for a lot of people but it's not what was described from reading the marketing materials to decide what trim level I wanted. At the very least all the wiring is in place if I wanted to do further upgrades. I really dislike removing panels and running wires :)

I followed what @22Lariat outlined in his thread and posted the items I ended up using here: https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...ade-and-sub-solution.38884/page-6#post-722726

Left the hole open to the outside and while it doesn't bring thunder like my 12" sub with 1000W amp I had in my Civic long ago, it at least fills out the bottom end pretty decently and as he said brings it more in line with what I would have expected from the factory premium audio.

Unfortunately, now that I got a taste I'm looking to upgrade further 😂 Right now I'm thinking my all-in price should be < $400 and I'll hopefully end up with a pretty nice system that accommodates listening to Rock or Drum & Bass with more focus on audio quality than when I was going for pure loudness.
Yea the Tacoma was likely the worst of their JBL showcase vehicles... figures it's the one I experienced :ROFLMAO:

I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on the 6.5" setup, I just couldn't remember where that thread was and tried to find it a while ago but got lost lol. For the price, it's not a bad upgrade. I don't think I'll bother with anything else though. The amount I spent in my previous vehicles is about 8 times more than I spend in the Maverick now days, so I just compromise at volume level 15 most times to jam out and it's good enough. I agree with everything you said though, it's definitely FORD quality lol. I wasn't planning on upgrading anything but I tried replacing the 6x9 early on and the magnet was too big, so I gave up. If the 6." you got is that easy, I'll do it.

I just wish they would have used a simple 8" sub like they use in the Escapes and not this poor excuse for a mid bass 6x9.

Utility, fuel economy and cost efficiency.

These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect vehicle.

Ok, now that that's out of my system, I just wanted to have a place to share the progress on my truck. This is the first vehicle I have ever bought brand new and I've already gone way above and beyond what I've done to any of my other vehicles. I'm probably not mechanically inclined enough to make some of the mods I see around here, but it's all very fun to look at and research into what feels right and achievable for me.

What we have here is a 2023 Maverick Hybrid Lariat Lux in Hot Pepper Red with Copilot 360 Assist, remote start, tow hitch receiver, basically all factory options besides the moonroof. It was a dealer ordered vehicle that I found new online @ MSRP 10/09/23. They would not honor the AXZ plan for me, but considering no market adjustment I locked it in. It took 3 weeks for the train to arrive with it. The dealer helped get a SIBL by Ultimate Linings and I took delivery 11/11/23. Dealer also agreed to match Granger pricing on the ESP and I chose the 9 yr/100k for $1265. It was nice to know this warranty transfers if I ever do sell the truck.

After 1,000 miles, I'm very pleased with it. I ended up right at the EPA estimated MPG after the first 1k. I drive a mix of mountainous back roads and have taken her on a few 100+ mile drives. I've been using the EV Coach as my primary screen when driving to keep the MPG up and using slippery mode to allow for more of a pulse and glide style (eco mode regen brakes a bit too much for this IMO) I do wish this screen could be combined with the Fuel Economy screen which would bring it a lot closer to the info I had in front of me while driving the Prius. I also spent a lot of time just sitting in it with it turned on, thinking about what upgrades I wanted to do and just taking it all in, so I potentially could have 40MPG+ in the next 1K.

1702533780025.png

Pros
  • Sitting up higher and not getting blinded by oncoming traffic as easily
  • Feels more planted than the Prius
  • I always have the truck bed available!
  • New safety features in the past 15 years (2010 Prius & 2009 Tacoma)
  • Highest trim does provide a more premium feel coming from a mid-trim Prius and a base Tacoma
  • Looks sweet
  • Insurance ended up being the same as the Prius somehow and soon will get the Tacoma off
Cons
  • Ride is a bit bumpier than the Prius
  • Losing ~10MPG vs the Prius
  • B&O Premium audio was disappointing vs the Prius's JBL system (more listening fatigue at higher volumes) and it's questionable whether the system that came installed is "B&O"

This truck promises to hit all of my sweet spots for what I want in a single vehicle and was compelling enough to lure me away from a Toyota RAV4 hybrid or the new Prius. I hope it was a good decision in the long run. 🤞 In the meantime, big thanks to all of you making great, detailed posts that have contributed to my new hobby/addiction 😂

Incoming upgrades:
  • HVAC controls swap with temperature displays (Apparently I might need forscan for this, the unit I picked up didn't work right when installed)
  • Swap out the other 7 speakers with Morel Maximo 6 MKII on the front, Morel Maximo 4 Coax on the back and attempt Dayton ND91-8 for the center
  • Hood anti-glare strips
  • Winter tires?
  • Front end paint protection film
  • Tow hitch finish panel
I'll be trading a 21 Prius prime in for mine.

I hope it's a good move. I miss having a small truck. I had a 99 Tacoma 2.7

@22Lariat deserves all the credit for researching and finding an almost perfect match. I'm happy to be a witness that it works decently though :) If you don't agree, it's a non-destructive process and easy to pop the original back end and return the rest. I wish I had grabbed and used one of these cables when I wired it up the first time, and will ultimately be doing that when I get back to it along with a little better sealing of gaps.

There must be dozens of us Prius converts right?

It's been a little adjustment seeing that lower MPG, but the pros outweigh the cons for me at the moment. The extended warranty makes me feel a bit better on long term reliability concerns and all the prior recalls should be addressed before you take delivery. Good luck, can't wait to see it when you do.

I sure can't wait for my HPR FX4! Looks so good in the sunlight! I've always been a fan of metalflake colors. Plus there a heck of a lot easier to maintain overtime since metallic paints hide imperfections such as swirl marks, paint chips, or scratches better than enamel paints.

Sounds good. Again, thanks for sharing and finding that thread for me. I ordered everything listed including that cable. From my limited research the 6.5" definitely sounds like an upgrade.

My combo was a 1994 chevy Silverado standard cab, and a 2008 chevy HHR wagon. I kept both. The silverado is still handy and runs great. The HHR makes a good spare vehicle whenever my wife and I need it.

Ugh, just broke a tab pulling up the center speaker grill 😭 but 4 hours later, I got the Dayton Audio ND91-8 set up at least.. The 72-5600 adapter does work for this if you take off the fins and reverse the positive and negative sides. I wrapped the black wire with red tape to indicate positive here :)

Had some trouble mounting it because the mounting holes are like half an inch too narrow (is this because they're for home audio maybe?) I rigged up this adapter plate cut from a hard plastic tub I was getting ready to junk.

It's weird looking, but it works and completely non-destructive with this approach (other than the clips...)

A little window insulation to push the cover up from the speaker's surround. (hope it's enough)

Having a hard time reading the part number for this.. Think it's "NZ6B-E04372-AD3JL6" ? Seems to be NZ6Z6004374AA

This swap brought the volume of the center down a good bit and seems to have gotten rid of the tinniness. Nice that it was 8 ohms already so I didn't need to add a resistor.
