Plan B+ Attach a strip of velcro along the top edge of the screen. Cut a piece of black fabric to size & attach. Flip up onto dash when screen is needed. Bonus feature: it doubles as a dust cover for screen.Plan B

yep, thats what im going to do ultimately if I do get annoyed, 5 dollar vinyl/rubber/leather rectangle, probably put it enough up, to where the hvac is still uncovered though when down. but a button, would be tits.

in 2025 models, if you push in on your volume button once, doesn't it take it to clock mode like his did? if you push it again, does it turn it off?
because his went to clock, then off next push. then back on 3rd push

In 2025 the radio yes.
The 24 model has a button dedicated for that, then he put a 25 radio in, and he has ability to use button to black screen
would like to replicate it

The head units is a computer running software. The button is attached to one of the computer input pins and software performs the function of shutting the unit down when it gets the proper interrupt signal (high or low) from the button. The functionality would need to be in the SW to execute a routine to turn off the display but it's not so you lose. The power is integrated on the PCBA with the microprocessor so it would be difficult to intercept just the power signal for the display to make the display go blank, and also the sw buffering protocol for dealing with abruptly removing power from the I/O drivers connected between the display and microprocessor would cause some real strange things to happen on the display screen upon power up from an off condition created by use of an inappropriate removal of display power while the microprocessor was still communicating with the display....not really something you would be proud to show off to a rider in the car.

Dunno about a physical button, but per your manual, it takes a few taps of the screen to turn the display off:

- From the settings menu, press Display.
