First of what I hope to be many post here. For many reasons of which you already know, I think a Maverick is the truck for me.

I will be retiring in January of 2023. I would like to have a Maverick around that time.

I've only bought one new vehicle in my life which was a 1995 Chevy Silverado so I'm not familiar with dealers, orders, markups and all the games. I must admit, this whole thing is confusing and intimidating. I stopped by the local dealer and they said come back in August and we'll see what we can do. I see them almost new on the used market for $15K over sticker.

Any suggestions on how to get in line and pay near sticker with my timeline? Perhaps snag a 2022 order that goes unclaimed?

Thanks in advance.

Your options are as follows from my Time on the forum.

1) Since ordering is closed for the 2022 model year, if you put in an order for 2023 when the order banks open, you will still have a long wait time since all 2022's aren't going to be built by the time the order banks open for 2023 and they will have to finish up those or those buyers will be put at the top of the list.

2) You can try to find an order that someone cancelled/didn't want. But as soon as it hits the dealers lot, expect a markup of about $5k+ on average. You will not get one for MSRP.

3) Can you get a Maverick in Jan 2023. Maybe. Some people ordered after others and got thier Maverick sooner. You can increase your chances by ordering from a larger dealer with more monthly allocations. As far as your chances of getting a Maverick by Jan 2023 if you put an order in as soon as the order banks open again I'd say 50/50. Remember also that now more people have caught on to the Maverick and it has gotten publicity, there are going to be A LOT more people trying to get a 2023 Maverick vs. 2022.

Good luck!

Thanks Blue Snake,

Question: If I order a 2023 off of the Ford site and go with a dealer that doesn't have " Market Adjustment " in August, should I expect to pay MRSP? I don't like the idea of paying sticker plus, $5K.

The reasonable cost is a key selling feature. May as well buy a F-150 at the prices I see for available Mavericks.

P.S. I don't blame the dealers for making the extra cash if they can get it. I understand market dynamics. However, it does impact my decision process.

As long as you go to reputable dealer you should only have to pay MSRP.

As far as getting a 2023 Mav by January of 2023 I would guess that a lot of the constrained items for 2022 will also be constrained items for 2023. For example Ford can't magically snap into existence chips for CP360 or for the Lux package so when ordering your 2023 Mav you might want to keep an eye on what items are still constrained later this summer.

Now if you absolutely must have say the XLT Hybrid trim with CP360, Lux package, and lets say a SIBL then your wait will most likely be longer. Unless you get lucky and the stars align and Ford pulls your order for production.

Really it's just a crap shoot when it comes to allocations, who gets scheduled, and when it happens.

The key is finding a dealer who will order your truck at MSRP, with any applicable discounts, and get the order & agreed upon price signed by the GM.

They are out there, but seems like for every 1 ethical dealer, there are 10 greedy liars. Good luck.

How many people had to pay a markup on their special order? I would think that is very rare and a call to Ford would resolve it.

My first dealer back November pulled that shot and I had to walk. If my new order doesn’t show up soon I might be walking a lot.

Thanks all. I called one of the big Ford Dealers here in town. They had a used XL with 2000 miles on it for $45,000. I asked about a crack at a 2022 should whoever ordered it back out and the sales person said that it does happen but expect to $12-15K over MSRP.

Looks like I'm waiting till August and hoping they don't jack up the prices too much.

There are tons of guys and girls that got unclaimed orders at MSRP right on this board, And on August 16th when you order ,you will get a dealer as I would say more than 70% are selling at MSRP ,please the big bad dealer BS is just that, for every jerk there are 5 great dealers .Just post your location a month before the order date and you will have a list of tried and true dealers in no time. Besides I think ford is going to take the maverick order system to be like the lightning and the Mach E

If you order new you are only 3.5 hours away from the best internet and customer oriented dealer in the nation - Granger Motors in Granger Iowa. Email Zach at Granger for their current deal. A month ago I picked up my Maverick - flew in and drove 1,100 miles back home and saved 5K over MSRP. Fabulous people to deal with, no funny business. Here is a link that will give you some info - I'm guessing they will beat any deal you come across. I love the truck.

it's not neccessary to get order & agreed price signed by GM if you are using an ethical dealer. My dealer doesn't do that for anyone and won't change priority code from 19 either. They are totally transparent every step of the way and everything is moving along smoothly on my order. They get lots of repeat buyers because they are true to their word.

I talked to my local dealer a few weeks ago about ordering a MY23 and was told that online orders now have to be done through the dealership. From following this website it seemed like I knew more than the salesperson.

I didn't order off the website (which is probably why I didn't receive any e-mails from Ford), I went into the dealer and put my order in. I was not asked to put down a deposit. My dealer did not charge me over MSRP. It is my understanding that to get MSRP you have to put in an order. Any Mavericks that are not a customer order but are a dealer stock order on the lot are going to be over MSRP more than likely, at least all the ones I have seen listed locally.

I agree, and my dealer is the same way. But OP is going in with no dealer history, so I think some prudent actions are warranted on his part. It's what I would do with a new dealer experience.

That trust is earned (or lost) over time.
