Sport mode .... uggh

I dont need any other mode but sport mode. The maverick isnt fast, its just a quick lil daily.

So I have had my 2.0L ecoboost AWD Maverick for almost 6 months now and in that time I've kept it in normal mode. Just for kicks recently I put it into Sport mode. Ugghh. To me it is very much unusable to the point I am wondering if something is wrong with either the programming or the transmission. I know that modes are electronic and not mechanical and the computer is just changing shift points and the timing of such. Sport mode on the Maverick as on other manufacturers that use it, holds the revs longer, and higher it seems. On my Maverick, the problem is is that it seems to hold high revs TOO long or when it shouldn't. Yesterday in Sport mode it was doing like 2500 RPMs at 40 mph. Seems a bit high to me since our Mavericks are high geared and are doing under 1800 RPM's at 60 mph in Normal mode. When I come up to a stoplight/stop sign in Sport mode, it holds the RPM's way too high when to me it should be lowering them since I am coming up to a stop. It's like someone in a manual that downshifts into 1st gear when coming up to a stop before they should and the engine is revving in too high an RPM. Just doesn't seem like it is behaving right or is this how Sport mode is supposed to behave in people that have used it regularly in thier Mavericks? If so, it is terrible IMO.

To me, Ford's Sport mode in general is kinda booty. My Lincoln MKZ does not like its Sport Mode, either. And it frankly feels utterly useless in all these turbocharged wimpy engines Ford is putting in everything.

I know this thread is about EB Mavs, but I have to say that I like the Sports mode, used VERY occasionally, on the Hybrid. Takes all hesitation out of the drive train. Really gooses it. If you find yourself in a stoplight drag with a Santa Cruz, by all means, go into Sports mode and smoke 'em.

Sport Mode works perfectly if you're going to drive at 9/10 and above. If you were on a closed road course or race track, it would be ideal. For everyday driving, maybe not so handy.

If you've had any racing or driving school experience, you would appreciate it more. (I used to road race motorcycles in the WERA Sprint Series back in the day...)

I like the fact that it's pretty "real" not just a mild change.

You got to be Kidd me…..I thought young people bought the truck for the price and utility of the vehicle who are you!!!!! So I’m mistaken you’re all older grannies and drive like one. There are times when you need total power in a vehicle, I live in a area in California that have highways that people travel at 70-75 mph even though the speed limit is 65 mph now there are no on ramps so coming of a side street which is 35 mph you need 100% torque and power to the wheels so there is no time to get up to speed I LOVE SPORT MODE it’s like being shot out of a cannon. Yea it idles high but when you need to get up to 65 mph in less then 60 feet sport mode is it stop complaining and enjoy the ride

So the RAV4’s, Kia’s Accords Subarus etc that make up 99% of the cars I have next to me at a light are all quicker? Wow your town is NOTHING like mine.

Actually the point I was making the most seem to be missing is that the Maverick is not a sport performance truck if you want one of those they are available. Rangers Tacomas can all be configured to be much quicker, but not as economical and not as efficient

and yeah, I live in North Scottsdale and there are a lot of really fast vehicles here. Maverick does not get any glossy road love or streetCred. Electric Platinum Lightnings Rivian and the new Tesla CyberTruck and hummers are coming. And I am fine with it.

Lol. I don’t race the maverick I do that. In the Rivian. Nobody touches me. Ever. Not even 911 Turbo. And 0 emissions. BTW. Never arrested. No accidents. 47th Year driving. Jes sayin

Ehh... Ill blow the doors off your rivan after a 300 mile trip . Seriously though your Rivan is a nice truck. There are two in my neighborhood and i still look everytime the drive by. Back on topic. To the OP; everyone here has bought their trucks for different reasons, so ford was nice enough to give all of us different modes based on what we like in a truck. If you're not in to driving fast, then i can totally see how you would think sport mode is worthless to you. I personally bought my mav to drive back county roads while be able to haul crap in the bed. So sport mode is great for my driving style. If you ever need to make a pass on a 2 lane back road, that may be the time for op to switch into sport mode, make the pass, the put it back into normal mode

I totally get your point and I’m learning that my normal is not everyone else’s. No it’s not a performance vehicle.
I just happen to live in New England where the typical car next to you is nothing sporty. Here, for me, a maverick is typically quicker than the endless sea of modest trim level small and midsize SUV’s, compact sedans & Nissan frontiers that most people drive.

The main complaint of the taco is the underpowered engine.

Every single car I've ever heard about with a sport mode keeps the engine at high RPM's for longer, especially when the engine is turbocharged. I've heard that this is often done to keep the turbos spooled up so they respond virtually instantaneously. On a side note, I've heard sport mode is a blast in the hybrid, gotta try it some time.

I get the feeling that a lot of people here would not appreciate plaid mode on a Tesla. Under no circumstances is even the most tooled up Maverick eco-boost in any way of a fast or dangerous truck. It’s actually kind of a dog but a nice dog. You’re not going to win a greenlight challenge in any of the models, unless you have some compromised vehicles against you.

I'd say the hybrid is quite fast, it's all relative. Doing 0-60 in the 7 second range means you're keeping up with a Miata or gt86 in a straight line. That's pretty fast for a small truck that "only" has a 4 cyl engine. Again, it's all relative, a 7 second 0-60 would be dog slow for a super car, but lightning quick for a commercial vehicle.

Wait, the hybrid's powertrain hesitates? Feels very responsive to me haha.

Yeah. I get that. My response was to counter the people that think that sport mode is some fast track to under three second track times to 60 MPH. Jarring and crazy. It's not. Seriously most four-cylinder sedans and small coupes can beat the heck out of the Maverick

I love the vehicle, but I won't consider it something that I want to test the performance on

I made a point to try all modes on my ECOboost on my way home from dealer 1st day. They all work great. Took the Looong way home through the local mountains with a lot of twisties. Mine mostly sits in the carport right now with Grand Cherokee being preferred DD in all this Winter weather we're having, but when it does get out, I always set for Sport mode. I love the kick in the pants, put you back in your seat feeling as it reminds me a lot of power delivery in my motorcycles. Kind of a poor man's "Muscle car". With the low seating position and AWD this thing handles like a go-kart and I love it!

Can’t wait to get mine Feb 29 build date
