I looked at a few threads on speaker upgrades and most of them installed 2-way speakers. I would want 3-ways (giggity) because I'd be doing it on a budget, just do speakers, no amp and sub etc. I'm no audiophile, but I would like more clarity in the sound, not having it be so "muddy" when I do decide to make it loud. Any recommendations would be welcome.

I replaced my door speakers with Kicker 51KSC6704 (2-ways) for $130, and they sound much, much better. I’m no audiophile either but it’s good enough so that I really don’t want to go any further. Better bass, louder, clearer, easy to install, what’s not to like?

I did kicker component. New woofers in door and New tweeters up top. I had done 2 way but that added to 4 tweeter and wasn't good.
I think you be good with better woofers in doors alone since you're not adding an amp.

I added the same speakers in the front door. I felt that the highs still sounded a bit muddy, which I think was due to the dash tweeters. I then added JL Audio C1-075ct tweeters, which I felt cleaned up the highs. For $180 total ($110 for the Kickers and $70 for the JL's), I'm happy with the results.

Was it difficult to remove all the trim and more importantly replace all the trim? I am quoted $1200 to wire up an amp behind the rear seat...I too, am not an audiophile and don't really need to blast loud but, it doesn't take much to have the bass in the standard speakers sound crappy.

The door panels are very easy to R&R to replace the front speakers.

It wasn't that hard. The a-pillar trim comes off first as one of its clips holds the speaker grill on. Then there's a few clips for the speaker grill. The hard part is removing those clips without having rhe clips fall off or the mounts breaking.

Then the speakers are right there. The JLs fit right/clip in the oem spot, the I'd use a bit of foam so they don't rattle around as they're a bit loose. And some foam tape around the wires so they don't rattle.
