I was not expecting much but was surprised at how well they sounded for a stock system, but it really depends on the source and type of music you are playing. I have only played from a USB drive and some stuff actually sounds great but once you get into more dense or layered recordings the shortcomings are more obvious. Having the rear speakers at ear level does help. At this point I’m fine with them but if music is an important part of your driving experience, or if you like to play it loud, you will most likely want to upgrade.

I'm currently driving an 2015 Focus SE. The factory sound, I think, is pretty good. Quality does change if I set the sound to driver sound or passengers. It has plenty of bass and is pretty good for a factory stereo. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I've heard rumbles of bad speaker sound in the Maverick. Can anyone back this up? How does it sound? Asking about FACTORY sound, not the b&o.
I reset the equalizer on my basic unit to "neutral" position and that seemed to improve the sound quality. I listen to some FM for news but use a USB for music. I find the sound quality using the USB varies seemingly in relation to the age of the song and how it was originally recorded. Oldies sound flat - newer music that was digitally recorded sounds good.

Very pleased with the factory sound in our Maverick and I haven't even tried to change the settings.is there even an equalizer?

Yeah the factory stereo won't blow your mind. I think it actually has gotten better with time. A lot less crackling and popping now that I've had it for a year with a good number of running hours. Maybe the audiophile thoughts on speaker break in a real?
$3 factory door speakers probably don't need a lot of break-in

Use the driver focused mode and set the bass on -2 or 3. midrange on +2 and treble on +4. Then If your not happy, upgrade away.

The best thing is to just fade out the rear speakers. Putting your left foot on the dead pedal also improves the sound.

It's not as awful as I was expecting it to be based on initial reviews, but the factory stereo definitely lacks bass. I tend to listen to a lot of rock, heavy metal and punk music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s so my standards aren't real high. Most of it sounds ok. If I play something with a lot of bass, like Smashing Pumpkins or Primus, the shortcomings are pretty obvious. I haven't upgraded the front speakers or added a sub yet but it's on my to-do ist.
Same. I was expecting terrible sound but it's fine. I added a Kicker HS10 subwoofer and it provides the low end the system was missing. I do plan on upgrading the front speakers eventually, but it's definitely more than serviceable.

If’s you’re happy with your 2015 se focus, then you should be happy with the maverick and for sure there’s a few factory settings that you can make to help that too. I myself am no audiophile either, but my 2014 titanium focus was awesome I loved that Sony system (I was disappointed at first with my 22 xlt Maverick, but it’s ok once I set it up). The best thing to do is definitely wait until you get it and play around with the settings, etc… before buying anything.

Was quoted $500 ish to upgrade the base factory speakers, with my hearing loss, to enjoy the sound I have the Bass and Tweeter settings to almost maximum but then the doors rattle, I'm too imobile to screw with trying to DIY and screw up the door panels, besides they will warranty their work, I saved a bundle not getting the cap from Ford so may consider this up grade. We have had the truck 9 months and have logged 13,000 miles, yeah I spend many hours in it being PO'd about the sound.

Life is too short to suffer through a crappy sound system. I do a fair bit of work travel and enjoy having a good system. My wife hates it loud, but our 16 year-old enjoys it, and car audio is another hobby we have in common now.

Go to some local car audio & security shops and get a few quotes. Tell them you want something decent but not too expensive, and see what they quote. You can actually open a thread here and ask for opinions on the parts list, quoted price, etc. You can always upgrade what what they initially quote but in my opinion DO NOT give them a budget up front. Too many shops will build a janky system cheaper than your budget. For example, $2k is a reasonable budget, but if you tell them that you might get a system that should only cost $1k, and they price it at your budget to see if you're naive enough to buy it.

Primus Sucks!

( no, I am not badmouthing his choice of bands. Only a Primus fan will understand....)

One thing I have always HATED to do it work on a car stereo system. Seems you just cannot beat OEM fit, finish, and durability. Yet some have been so lacking major work was required.

I know the OP said Factory and NOT B&O.

BUT...I just got home from a decent drive in my new Maverick. I have owned cars with some highly touted sound systems.
The B&O in this Maverick has the best overall sound delivery I have ever had in a vehicle. I don't like any more bass than is "real" so I assume the woofer would be lacking for some listeners of some genre's. But the clarity of the mid and high range surprises me. Even makes XM sound decent. Wish it had a CD slot in it. The B&O was one of the reasons I wanted the Lariat package.

Sound is good if you don't want jungle beats bass. That said sometimes there is crackling that resolves with a system reboot so...

I would agree with JP4AZ, the factory speakers are good for general purposes. We have an XLT Hybrid '22, and 25k miles later still have the factory speakers.
