There is a 2023 Wrangler 4xE Rubicon still on the lot new around me. They are advertising a big discount but baking in the EV credit buyers get so they still have more room to go.

I told them get it under $50k (for a $65k rig) and they have themselves a buyer - it is currently listed for $53k and they won't budge.
Those are huge POS read the forums. Lots of issues. Personally I’d never buy a Jeep product and that goes double for one with batteries.

Ford at least has been making mild hybrids for a long time and mostly knows their stuff in that department.

Does it seem possible the dealer figured they could give the OP a low trade in and make a lot of money or have him walk and easily sell what I assume is still a somewhat hard to acquire maverick?

I sold my car private sale around the time the maverick showed up. Doing anything else gave the dealer way more leverage than I was interested in giving them.

I think the OP made the right choice.
if he's shopping now because he has a lease on the CX5 listed in his profile, I would suggest that he lower his budget, buy a used vehicle, and stop pouring money down a hole with leasing.

... assuming that he isn't able to claim the lease as a business expense. and I'm about 90% confident in that assumption.

I didn't even consider trading in when they initially told me I could get around $2,000 for my 2005 Sport Trac, well before my truck came in.

Sold it in about 8 hours for $5,600 on Facebook market.
Of course the interest rates were way better in 2022, and Ford had 0% for 36 months.

I will say I checked carvana to see what they'd give me for car that I traded in and I expected the same from the dealer. Without knowing what carvana offered the dealer offered the same. But it came out to slightly more as the trade was taken off the price of the new car before it was taxed so I figure trading it gave me a few hundred more because of that.

Ordered on May 28 arrived at dealer 8/15. Went to pick him up and dealer was on a completely different planet as far as the trade in value and lease numbers for me. I told them now they have one on the lot for sale and unfortunately had to walk away and leave my Maverick behind. It didn't work out for now but I'll give it another try in 6 months or so. I'll still be enjoying this club on a daily basis.
You were going to lease it eh? Curious as to the numbers he threw at you? If they were that stupidly high maybe he was HOPING you'd walk away so he could sell it?

uh, lease? definitely do not lease a maverick unless you can get a business write-off for it.

what does carvana, carmax etc value your current trade in at, and how does that compare to what the ford dealership offered?
Agree. Stay away from a "fleece"!

Everybody's reason for buy vs lease is a personal decision. If you tend to keep a vehicle long term then don't lease. If you like one every three years or so or have a write off possibility then al! you pay on the lease is the depreciation which you would have lost anyway. I sold cars for 10 years Ford's for most of that time, trust me no dealer is going to take advantage of me.

My mechanic hates jeeps. Gets them in all the time for problems they shouldn't have. Complains about the cheap construction.
No idea what it is like down in FL but lots of Mav's on dealer lots around here. No need to wait.

respectfully, I do not understand how a former car salesman could have been surprised at dealer trade in value (why not discuss it in advance), apparently did not have carvana or other options ready, and still doesn't understand why a lease is horrible on a vehicle as popular as a low mileage Maverick. (why low mileage? because if you're considering a lease you definitely do not drive a lot of miles a year.)

maybe...more likely
I think the OP made the right choice. The initial madness over Maverick seems to be over. A year ago we were all posting our guesses on how long MY 2024 order books would be open. Earth to Spock. They're still open. And Ford mailed out $750 incentives on the 2024 Maverick last month (mine went into the garbage basket).

Prediction: We'll see $1,500 incentives on Maverick in late winter, as the "recession that isn't going to happen" happens.
maybe...more likely they'll ramp up XL production as those are more affordable and cut back on the higher priced models as they won't be selling very well.

They did not want to discuss trade value until the Maverick came in. I had the competitive bids with me and the dealer was 4k under. Got him to 3k under but the lack of decent numbers on the lease payment convinced me to walk away. My day will come, it was just too early to trade out of my Mazda lease. I wouldn't do anything with Carvana and don't trust them to pay off the balance with the bad reputation they have in Florida. Carfax offered $24,600 dealer was at $21,000 when I walked. Poor lease was the deciding factor.
