Ordered on May 28 arrived at dealer 8/15. Went to pick him up and dealer was on a completely different planet as far as the trade in value and lease numbers for me. I told them now they have one on the lot for sale and unfortunately had to walk away and leave my Maverick behind. It didn't work out for now but I'll give it another try in 6 months or so. I'll still be enjoying this club on a daily basis.

uh, lease? definitely do not lease a maverick unless you can get a business write-off for it.

what does carvana, carmax etc value your current trade in at, and how does that compare to what the ford dealership offered?

I keep hearing the car market, and the used car market particularly, is crashing right now. I know FCA has 2023 vehicles still sitting on lots and the dealers just aren't willing to budge on prices. With all the unsold inventory, maybe they lowballed you to cover themselves if they have to resell it at a low price. Carvana keeps sending me offers on my Subaru in line with what they were offering in 2022, so maybe try them if you still want to trade up?

Depending on the state, the value of the trade-in can reduce the sales tax on the new vehicle purchase, so the Cavana/etc offer has to be able to compensate for that.

I have twice used carfax or carvana offers to bring a dealership's offer up to match. the dealerships definitely count the tax credit on their side of the ledger, so they're actually offering less.

in some states you can still get the sales tax incentive selling a vehicle privately instead of having to trade it in, but Kansas isn't one of them.

It has to cover the 2-8% tax savings. That is fairly easy.

Stop by car max or carvana on way to pickup your new truck. Then you have a guaranteed price for dealer to allow you for trade in. Dealer or you can deliver truck and if check made to dealer should be a sales tax credit on trade in.

There is a 2023 Wrangler 4xE Rubicon still on the lot new around me. They are advertising a big discount but baking in the EV credit buyers get so they still have more room to go.

I told them get it under $50k (for a $65k rig) and they have themselves a buyer - it is currently listed for $53k and they won't budge.

I wouldn't have the least bit of interest in that Jeep after having driven a Bronco. They're so terrible on the road.

The 4xE off-road would be a hassle when the ICE shuts off mid maneuver. I've heard of people switching to all-electric mode to deal with it, but that only is possible when you can get by with minimal power.

Then I'm imagining all the usual Jeep electrical gremlins, and thinking I definitely don't want a highly electrified Jeep out of warranty.

Definitely prefer the Bronco and don't trust Stellantis for anything but a $50k rubicon is still a $50k rubicon.

That doesn't apply to lease vehicles. Tax is paid monthly.

I think the OP made the right choice. The initial madness over Maverick seems to be over. A year ago we were all posting our guesses on how long MY 2024 order books would be open. Earth to Spock. They're still open. And Ford mailed out $750 incentives on the 2024 Maverick last month (mine went into the garbage basket).

Prediction: We'll see $1,500 incentives on Maverick in late winter, as the "recession that isn't going to happen" happens.
