Yup! The Brat. It was really just as a way to get around the chicken tax (would have added 25% to the price), it was understood you'd likely rip those out upon delivery of the vehicle. Government understood that too, which is why that loophole was closed. I think Mercedes was doing something similar until recently, importing cargo vans with some crappy seats in them that were to be removed by the dealership to avoid import taxes by making it a passenger van later modified technically.
The Mercedes Metris. It's a terrible van that no one should own. It's a cargo van mostly and maybe an airport shuttle. They just may have stopped selling it because it was awful.

I forgot to close the one on my f150 the other day when I went into Harbor freight and I can.e out to find my little dog heading across the street to try and find me. I felt terrible that I forgot to close it and he could have got hit by a car or lost.
Yeah back when I had my old Chevy S-10 I left it open one time and I'm pretty sure someone used it to snag my pair of Oakleys that were in the cup holder.

You mentioned baby in the October post, so I wanted to share my work around. I have two little ladies aged 6 and 5. I also have an XLT with the manual window. When I want the rear window open, I use the voice command “ladies, open the window.” This is usually treated with an acknowledgement of “yeaaaa windy.” Closing is just as simple. Although I have to admit it sometimes just opens without the voice command. 🤔
Damn. I'm gonna have to wait a few years to get the voice activated feature for my window. My son is just 10 1/2 months old right now. :ROFLMAO: Luckily, I can get this when my wife is riding in the back with him.

We had an '89 F-150 with a rear sliding window. I also miss those little triangular pop open vents on the A-pillars. Decided to order the slider on the XL if it ever gets here and did so with the anticipation of eventually putting either a Softopper or a cab on the rear.

Can’t live without rear slider. Power ideal but No need for power on these trucks you can reach back from front and open. At least you can on my Tacoma Crew

airflow plus can often get longer items in the bed by putting through the window.

To me they are what I call a vestigial feature.

In the past a large portion of pickups were single cabs, and you could open them up so the air coming in your cracked front windows had a exit spot, but with long crew cabs you can accomplish the same with the rear windows. Either way, once underway you are going to want to usually close them again when going on the highway, but with a manual one you can't just reach behind you to do that if its a crew cab.

It also used to be somewhat common to have people in the bed of your truck, so having a back window was great to pass things through and communicate, but safety culture has changed and its pretty discouraged (and in many places illegal) to have folks back there.

The port itself is not flush with a hard tonneau or particularly large to use as a passthrough for long objects into the cab. Now if it were like the Toyota which drops the whole rear glass like a window, that one can be a pass through and is cool, but no such luck.

My preference is not to have it and to keep the rear headrests stored under the seat when not in use to improve rear visibility.

I just called and dropped mine as an option today when I saw the frame. Honestly it’s not that hot where I live, and probably more of a bitch to try and scrape the recessed middle part when there is frost.

its often wide enough for lumber. I use the one on my Tacoma frequently to load extra long items in the bed

You don't need luxury package for the power slider, its standard on the Lariat... sadly.

I have one on my Ram, and IMO even with power they are pretty useless on a crew cab truck where you have back windows. They block some vision, can become a source of rattles, squeaks, or leaks, can let in more noise, and make tinting more of a pain. Worse though are the manual ones which are even more obstructive and less useful since you'd almost never climb back there to open it.

Its one of my gripes with the Lariat is that you are forced to get the rear window port.
I have the manual sliding window but strangely enough I like the look of it from the outside. I'll prob never use it and am hoping I don't develop leaks or problems as you suggest might happen though. Lol

LOL this thread was old. I have power slider and love it when the weather is decent enough to open all the windows. I wouldn't rest lumber on it/ through it!!!
