Just dropped my 2024 xl awd off to get the secondary cat deleted. This is the first of many upgrades. Fingers crossed it gives it some sort of sound.

First impressions:

Just got it back. Very slight change in sound, especially from inside. The engine is still louder than the engine. What I did notice as soon as I drove it was a way better throttle response and less lag. I'm satisfied with the results of this $150 upgrade. I will post the sound clip later when my friend gets out of work.

Secondary cat delete and cat that was removed.

Same here in Ohio in an E-Check county, but they do a visual check and a missing cat would be an issue even without a CEL.
I'm in NY and after the 2nd year inspection (first year is only a quick safety check) it will undergo a smog test hooked to a state computer. This device must do something regardless off whether or not there is a sensor so I would be worried about it passing a smog test in a state like NY.

I hope the fact that our trucks have two cats doesn't get out. The cat bandits will focus on them.

It’s a cat. You could put this pic in the Wikipedia entry for catalytic converter. 😀

Does look like it has the honeycomb. Think it's strange it has no sensors. Seen precats with no sensors but the secondary ones do. Learned something.

My SIl 2008 Honda fit just has her cat stolen. Lot of work for a small cat.

I thought it was illegal to do this? And have you noticed any engine codes yet?

That is very uncool and it would be great if you got nailed by the emissions police. A lot modifications to a Maverick are fun and useful but when you go frigging around with exhaust emissions just for a bit more sound or throttle response, you are in fact irresponsible.

What is uncool about modification of exhaust and emissions?

More than just your joking about being a "polluter", it is my understanding that both you and the shop are guilty of federal felonies. Am I correct? Not sure I would post this .

Questionable in a couple areas; the one I would worry about is losing the warranty.

However, I'd be really PO'd if someone charged me $150 for a piece of pipe and a terrible "puddle and burn" weld job. Just think what it must look like on the other side
