Chrome delete project

I've started a chrome delete project on my cyber orange XLT hybrid. I want to delete all the chrome and replace with matte black to match the trim and keep a consistent orange, black, and dark gray color scheme.

There are a lot of chrome accents all over the Maverick, so this is going to be a big, arduous, DIY project. I don't yet have solutions for deleting all the chrome. Any tips and suggestions are welcome.

I'll post all the chrome delete tasks in this thread.

Phase one of chrome delete are the exterior Ford emblems.

To maintain the color scheme, I first purchased emblem overlays to change the color of the emblems from Ford blue to matte black. I purchased dark gray on matte black overlays on Etsy which includes the steering wheel emblem.

To delete the chrome I bought emblem covers on Amazon.

THE RESULTS:

Tailgate lettering is the Ford accessories Tufskinz matte black tailgate lettering inserts https://accessories.ford.com/products/tufskinz-matte-black-tailgate-lettering-inserts

The rear emblem cover only blocks the backup camera in the very top corners and the zoom button covers the left blockage:

Nice work! Looks great. Black (or is that alto blue?) and bronze go well together. How'd you do it?

Its Alto Blue, just looks black from different angles was trying to match the lariat (blue/bronze) interior

Ah, hyperdip. Nice detail work on the side marker "LARIAT" trim letters.

I'm doing the same thing. Have a gray Mav XLT so sticking with the black and gray look. I used a mate black paint in the thin outline of chrome on the steering wheel. Skill need to add my overlay to the front.

I used plastidip around the emblem on the tailgate and the xlt. Printed my own tailgate letters on my cricut. Not perfect, but MUCH cheaper and I can replace as needed.

OMG, sorry but that reminds of my grandmother's bathroom with her black toilet, sink, bath and shower with gilded bronze fittings. I felt nauseous everytime I went in there.

Can't afford the Black Appearance package headlights or tail lights for my 2022 but a "maybe" 1/1 faux Velocity blue BAP is in the future...

35% on top of the factory tint, 5% side marker lights black lugs, my XLT fender emblems are dipped and have been black for about 15k miles along with the door handles and the Roof spoiler

All bumpers covers and side skirts are covered in Cerakote and has lasted about 25 handwashes in this picture. Still looks like it was freshly applied!

Back emblem is dipped black I can't bring myself to do it on the front I should have ordered the stickers!!!!

Bet you couldn't tell this truck already has 17,500 miles on it

That rear emblem looks great on gray.

I bought the same decals (gloss black on matte black background). I was planning on using Plastidip on the badges since I read about the camera blockage, but it’s barely anything! Thanks for providing that image. I think I’ll go that route.

How did you dip the XLT letters so cleanly?

How did you dip the XLT letters so cleanly?

I feel like it could've been cleaner Yet, but I taped off as close to the letters as possible, then just took an exact knife and traced the letters and peeled the excess off. That's the lovely thing about plastidip if you've never used it.

I've used extensively but I have a Lariat and the A, R letters are really close. I don't think I can get it cut close and clean.

Also had to do the BAP headlights and fender badges

Only chrome I have is black chrome (Ford badges)
I’m only blacking out the exterior chrome…. The interior chrome bits don’t bother me plus there are no good options for losing the chrome

Very cool. How'd you black out the lock? Did you replace the badges with black chrome badges?
