Do an order and have a "Signed Buyers" done.

That protects you from bad dealerships.
This is the dealership I ordered from. They advertise on the heading of their website that they will not mark up an ordered vehicle. Should I feel good about that, or do I still need a buyers order?

Disgusted by your experience.
so sorry.
What amazes me is how the reservation web site Ford setup up to connect with the dealer nearby, really trapped the customer. If you had to go to the dealer to reserve your truck I am sure many of us would have got out with some legal documents instead of an empty email that protected no one.

PS
I would still connect with your attorney general office. Here in the north east that are a few states AG that went after a few dealers and they had to give some $ back to their prey/customer

For piece of mind you should go back in and have a "Buyers Order" done showing all the costs, fees and taxes and shows the final-out-the-door price listed that you agree with and have it signed and dated by you and the General/Sales Manager of the dealership.

I did this with my dealer in October last year. I had ordered in August but only had a DORA signed by me. There was no issues with them doing a "Buyer's Order". It took all of 10 minutes to complete and I had piece of mind because of it being done.

With the "Buyer's Order" done I sold my 2015 Honda Fit Ex to Carvana at the end of October and shared the wife's 2009 Honda CR-V Ex until December when I paid for my Maverick.

I had no issues paying for the Maverick when I picked it up and the price exactly matched the "Buyer's Order".

I'm not sure I understand how the website trapped people.

When I reserved a Maverick online last summer, all the website did was direct me to a dealer so I could get in touch with them and actually make an order. As I recall, the salesman contacted me by email and I made an appointment to go in and see him.

I didn't like that salesman, so I just drove to another dealership and dealt with a salesman there that I found more congenial. I never got the sense that I was trapped.

And this is why I'm so happy about getting A Plan pricing when ordering vehicles. I'm so sorry that they did this to you. You wait so long for a vehicle and expecting the price that was agreed upon then they do this. Disgusting dealership. I know some dealerships are asking over msrp when its on the lot but not for special ordered vehicles. If it was me I probably would have walked and did everything in my power to make sure everyone in the area to stay away from that sh!thole.

Very sorry for you. :(

I too spent a lot of time researching here and watching Tim's @fordvideoguy videos and learned that the only thing that can protect you from the ADM/Junk Options markups was to have a "Buyer's Order" showing all the costs, fees and taxes and shows the final-out-the-door price listed that you agree with signed and dated by you and the General/Sales Manager of the dealership.

That is the only document that can protect you from what happened. If you had attempted to do the "Buyer's Order" at time of order and the General/Sales Manager of the dealership wouldn't sign it that would have been a great big red flag that they were going to do a markup on delivery.

All verbal or one sided agreements can be broken whereas a "Buyer's Order" is a signed contract binding you to buy the vehicle and the dealer selling you the vehicle at the agreed upon price.

I have requested that the @Administrator post a sticky that a "Buyer's Order" protect you from markups but for some reason the Administrator hasn't done so.

There have been a number of folks here who have either had to pay a markup or walk away from their order because they have found out that verbal or only buyer signed documents are worthless and don't hold water upon delivery of your vehicle.
Maybe the other thing we should be letting people know is that if they don't want to sign it and give you a copy, call Ford and cancel your order. Being that the truck hasn't been built they shouldn't be able to use your name and ID to get a truck that they are going to rip someone else off with. As for me the dealership (HONOLULU FORD OWNED BY LITHIA MOTORS!!!)waited until the truck was on the way, to drop the $8000 bomb on me. And of course they wanted me to refuse the truck because now it is theirs to sell to someone willing to pay an even higher markup probably. So, I think we need to get this out to those that either already know they working with a shady dealer or make sure they get that signed (by the dealership) buyers order, if not cancel it and don't give them the satisfaction of getting a free truck to sell, thanks to us... Without the original order they wouldn't have a damn truck to sell in the first place, but these shady dealers put greed before reputation. And Ford's Jim Farley's publicity stunt don't help anyone of us if you don't have any honest dealer in your area, because they will all continue doing what they do, and get less allocations, which in turn hurts the people waiting for their vehicles and now the demand just increased even more, so they will add even more markups on those vehicles. So, with all their highly paid corporate legal team why don't they get off the butts and get the outdated laws/rules changed so FORD can do something about these shady dealers and build a positive reputation, and help the everyday Joes!

They wanted an additional $8000?

What price was on your signed and countersigned sales agreement?

Nope long story short, I only had the signed by me build sheet and not by the dealer. And he claimed that's not the one when I went to the dealership and he did discuss the markup with me. SO, crazy I would have never even ordered it for that price. Its all bait and switch and I know major discussion going on about this but now that its gone I will pursue further actions on them. Learning lesson for me but I don't want others (if I can help make that happen) to go thru all this BS and disappointment. At least I wasn't in dire need of the vehicle. Claimed $5995 Hawaii market adjustment and some other bullshit called Arctic Blast for another $2000.

If you custom order a Ford vehicle and want to pay MSRP, please do NOT use this dealer. You've been warned!

This is my experience with this dealer. I just want to get the truth out about my experience.

After reading tons of websites and forums I decided to order a Maverick. In August 2021 I went on Ford's Maverick configuration website and ordered a Maverick Lariat Lux Hybrid. The MSRP was 31k. I'm new to my area and randomly selected a dealership close by.
I went to the dealership and asked 2 questions based on my research and reports on Bronco markups.

1. Are you guys going to charge a deposit on my order? The sales manager said, "No".
2. Are you guys going to sell me the Maverick at MSRP? The same sales manager said, "Yes, we will add a dock fee less than 200 bucks".

They copied my DL and I signed paperwork. I was not given a copy. Months later I realized this could be a mistake.

Months went by while I patiently read about deliveries and dealer experiences on the Maverick Chat forums. I also read about Ford's disappointment with dealerships marking up custom orders like mine. I also learned many dealerships are indeed selling Mavericks and Broncos at MSRP. I even learned about Smart Vincent, a dealer tool to see what promos were available during the order process.

Months go by..

My sales person texted me that my Maverick had arrived at the dealership. I told them I was closing on a house in around 5 business days and I was buying it for sure!

I got a text back, "no problem we'll keep it in the showroom til then".

The next day I get a text that the GM was adding 5000 dollars to my vehicle. I mentioned that I was told the vehicle would be sold to me at MSRP. They said that's a decision coming from the GM.

Based on what I had seen on YouTube videos and the Maverick Chat site I called the Ford complaint line several times.

Responses ranged from, "The dealers can do what they want. " to "Ford is penalizing dealerships if they charge over MSRP on custom orders by reducing allocations."

One person on the complaint line even said,"Because of franchise law Ford is limited on what they can do." They mentioned, "try talking to the GM at the dealer".

So that's what I did.

After arriving at the dealership. (haven't closed on my house yet) I politely asked to speak with the GM. My salesperson escorted me to the GMs office and told the GM, "I was just letting the customer know we are adding a market adjustment of 5000 dollars to his Maverick. The GM said and I quote," No, the markup 7500"!

After waiting 8 months only to get sucker punched by the dealership.

Trying to keep my cool I stepped into the GMs office.

I told my story as above, and about the 2 questions I asked.

The GM responded, "We instruct all of our sales people that we don't sell any custom orders at MSRP. If you don't buy it we will sell it for 10 thousand over MSRP."

My response, "Is it possible that my order went in before your instructions to you sales team?" This was 8 months ago.

I also mentioned the recent communication from Ford to dealerships about charging over MSRP on custom orders.

Long story short. He wouldn't budge from 7500 over MSRP until I showed him my text from the sales manager the day before that showed the 5000 markup.

Why am I negotiating a 5k markup?

After closing on my house I ended the truck with the 5000 dollar markup.
Gues what happens next they try to sell it to me at 4.9 percent interest. I had to insist they look it up on Smart Vincent and only then they gave me the 1.9 interest that was on Ford's website when I configured my truck.

Can't wait for the Ford survey.

I've got 5 thousand reasons to expose this dealership and warn others.

Please repost my story.

Love the truck, hate my deal.

I'm from the area too. Used to work there at that particular dealer when it was Landers Ford. Thanks for the warning. I'll take my business elsewhere.
