Scratched Interior Plastic

I tried to prevent this from happening by using rubber covers for the seat belt mechanism. I use them on our 2025 Escape as well. I am bummed that they still scratched the plastic trim on my Maverick. Not seeing the same on the Escape. Any suggestions?

Yeah, get comfortable with the fact it easily scratches. Just seems to be the way the Maverick interiors are. I find it ironic that the Escape and Bronco Sport that comes out of the same factory on the same platform can have vastly different better interior quality over the Maverick. I knew this going in so I am not phased too much by it.

You can try self-adhesive felt squares in that particular area.
Will it look better than the scratches
I guess that depends on your craftsmanship and artistic abilities at cutting

If you decide to use felt squares don't forget to properly prepare the surface.

Considering the Maverick was designed around a $20,000 price point and the Bronco cost more. I would expect the Bronco to have a better interior

That is forgivable in the base XL but getting into the higher trim Mavericks with the same crappy plastics, that Delta between those higher trim Mavericks and the Bronco Sport or Escape shrinks considerably if not cancelled or overcome.

I guess in some folks opinion the seat covering got better with a Lariat.
I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.

The Maverick has the worst plastic durability of any vehicle I have ever been in. My recommendation: be ok with it or dump it. Worrying about it won't do you any good.

Also, there is no functional stripped equivalent of the Bronco Sport to the Maverick XL. The Bronco Sport Big Bend would be the equivalent of a Maverick XLT. Another thing to consider is the Bronco Sport is AWD standard and no FWD models

The pricing should be closer to when it was designed and put into production. That's the Delta I'm using. It was probably closer to 2018-2019 when the Maverick was being designed, if not earlier.

I agree with you for back then. Now, the point I am trying to make is the cost delta shrinkage does not justify them being cheap on the plastics today other than increase profit margin. It is not like they would need new molds to inject better plastic composite into them.

You are correct.
We also don't know how many units or cost per unit they contracted for from their supplier. There's not a whole lot of incentive for Ford to upgrade the cheapest vehicle in their lineup.
The cheapest new vehicle in Ford's lineup is the Ford Maverick, a compact pickup truck starting at an MSRP of roughly $28,145

If folks want a better interior they have to move up to a Ranger or F-150, instead of the cheapest vehicle on Ford's lineup

True, pennies saved turns into millions of dollars given a long enough run. Still though, I am sure Ford has flexibility with their suppliers to make in sequence changes, especially at the start of a new model year.

At the end of the day, Ford is selling gobs of these Mavericks so there is no incentive to entertain the musings of my armchair accounting.

Just wondering if quick passes with a heat gun would help remove the scratches. I'd be willing to try it in a less conspicuous area. You can't let it get too hot.

If you would like to keep the color. You can order small rolls of clear Paint Protective Film ppf off Amazon or ebay.

All vehicles have plastic interiors, they get scratched. Don't worry about it or put a sticker on it. Or maybe a kids bandaid. Even cars back in the 60s with metal dashboards got scratched. Just hope they don't crack like the padded dashes did!

My solution has been to load up on the ArmorAll Natural once a week on the areas that get scuffed by seat belts or shoes... doesn't completely eliminate the scratches but really seems to mitigate them and/or hide them.
