So, In 1999, I bought a new GMC Sierra 1500 Classic from Putnam GMC in Burlingame, CA. 25 trouble-free years and 291K miles later, it finally gave up the ghost and made its final journey atop a flatbed enroute to the Kars4Kids organization. In March of this year, I began doing research on compact pick-up trucks. I no longer need a full-size truck and with California gas prices, I don't want to line the pockets of Sacramento politicians with my hard-earned dollars. Besides, replacing the '99 Sierra ($24K) with a comparable '25 Sierra (approx. $70K) makes no sense to me.
I read about and drove every compact p/u out there and was delighted to find the Maverick. Long story short, earlier this week my '25 Lariat arrived at Paso Robles Ford. 43mpg out of the gate and a pleasure to drive. The ride is very comfortable, the cabin is incredibly quiet, the sound system is excellent and I'm a big fan of the 360-degree cameras for parallel parking without scuffing the curb. Very happy to find that the steering wheel telescopes well beyond the range of past vehicles I've owned so that I can push the seat well back and still be comfortable on the wheel. And my wife loves the fact that she can use the pump handle on the side of the passenger seat to either raise or lower it. Throw in the 4K tow package, the moon roof, the black-out package, 19" wheels, and a couple other goodies and I'm happier than a clam in high water.
