well that's a respected source, but I wouldn't order the party favors just yet

latest from Ford

just 30% of the company’s annual capital expenditures will now be dedicated to pure electric vehicles in the future — down from 40%.

Remember how VW's "clean diesel" technology was going to save diesel engines for passenger cars? :)

Apples to oranges. If this is true I believe Ford has already tested this procedure before applying for a patent.

Diesel to gasoline. VW tested its procedure before applying for a patent as well. It's just that the procedure relied on cheating.

And I used a smiley to indicate that I wasn't serious.

I'm hoping it works. I know it's different but it's similar to wood stoves to meet epa causes the burn to swirl and using stainless steel that actually help with a second burn to meet the standards and eliminating catalyst. Basically they are re-burning offering extra power, better mileage and cleaner air. I just hope it works out it will be a step in the right direction. It will also offer extra time for technology to increase and either perfect EV or move to another fuel. I was pretty excited reading the article this the reason posting it.

Am I crazy, or did old carbureated motors during the emmisions days run a hose from the crankcase vent to the breather to do the same?
Maybe everything old is new again.....

It kinda sounds like they want to add early 80s emission carb technology too modern pcv systems. It will add efficiency, but gonna need more than that. Of course so won't evs, they need quicker, cleaner, more powerful batteries.

This concept is nothing new. It's been around for decades. Porsche and Maserati already use a pre-chamber ignition. Ford is just patenting a "different" way of doing it. Reroute that unburnt fuel vapor into the pre-ignition chamber and ignite it. Your main fuel injector won't stay open as long to allow a more lean mixture into the combustion chamber since you're now running a rich mixture in the pre-ignition chamber. Honestly, no matter what you do (e.g., PCV, turbo, EVAP, etc.) the ICE is just inefficient. The energy in gasoline is going to be lost through heat, pumping losses, etc., no matter what. At the end of the day all these changes are just to mitigate the amount of CO2 emissions with the sales pitch of "we'll get you more gas mileage" and passing that cost onto the consumer. I doubt EV is ever going to disappear even as the novelty (think Cybertruck) wears off. I believe the hybrid transition will remain in place alot longer before a considerable a switch to EV is made.
