curious if anyone has looked into converting something like an old Ranger to BEV? There's been more and more companies offering conversions in recent years and it's not just for old VW Bugs, Corrollas and such anymore. Lot's of people here don't need huge driving range or all the tech stuff anyways that raises prices (and requires more chips & SW to control everything), and also have specific things they want like single cab and longer bed and true compact size. Maybe finding a platform that you prefer (Ranger, pre-Tacoma Toyota, S-10, etc.) and having it converted to basic but modern BEV drivetrain is a way to get there and not wait on companies to build it for you?
I've already decided when my low mileage 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee is no longer viable in ICE form, I'll seriously investigate the electric conversion. It is by far the best vehicle I ever owned and I love everything about it and paid for- so it's not going anywhere until I'm no longer driving. Once fast charging infrastructure is normalized nationwide conversions will get cheaper and readily available. I'm in a rural area but see plenty of Rangers, and B2300 Mazdas for sale cheap that need new drivetrains so it's got me thinking while waiting on Maverick reveal to see if that works for me.
Be interesting to post/read thoughts here on going the conversion route as an alternative... especially any inputs from people who looked into this already...
