So in your words, the Santa Cruz is ...

"Quality is superior"
"Clearly superior"
"Very impressive"
"Look and feel upscale"

We almost reserved one of these but the lack of pricing at launch gave me pause. I’m glad because I don’t think it looks as nice as I originally thought it did (Maverick goggles?) and it seems cramped in there. I’m sure the Limited package is quite nice, but eh….

Looks like a nice product. Definitely something to consider if you're already spending Lariat Lux Ecoboost money - the SC offers a nicer cabin and more features

Meh. I’ll happily spend Lariat Lux money before going to Hyundai. Nothing harsh against them, but I’ll spend $36k on Ford’s specialty (truck) than a Hyundai roll of the dice.

Here is the thing I see where the Santa Cruz misses the mark. Designed in California, being called a sport adventure vehicle if I recall correctly? First strike, if you have that locking bed system, who can throw their bikes in the back and sling the fork over the gate? One bike angled maybe? What about the other 3 people in the car? Any other sport that begs for a clean, upscale piano black interior? I can't think of one, maybe sailing or tennis?

The problem is it was built as a lifesytle vehicle, but I think they were all living the lifestyle of silicon valley types that live within 100 miles of Santa Cruz. The upscale interior is nice to look at, but if you do any version of any sort of activity with that, it is going to be a mess in a month. Where the Maverick contrasts this is with a practical, good looking interior that quite frankly might look better with some age and use.

Tech can be cool too, but it isn't really needed and a car will still drive down the road without it. I do love those cooled seats too (had them in my challenger a few years ago), but things like this don't tend to sway most buyers. Cost, meeting most needs and uses are the primary factors people bring to the car buying process. So while the Santa Cruz certainly does tick some nice feature boxes (and I don't think it is bad looking either - when I saw it my interest was piqued; had seen a few maverick rumors and wasn't that interested in it either), the Maverick ticks the biggest ones, across segments and across a LOT of potential buyers - cost and practicality at in a segment that hasn't seen value in many, many years.

All of which is subjective. If power, towing capability, and/or 'modern styling' are your main concerns, the Santa Cruz might be your bag.

If fuel economy, utility, and bed payload capability are your main concern, then the Maverick might be your bag.

It is all subjective. We like what we like for our own reasons.

Are you really that insecure that you feel that discussing positive aspects of the competition in the subforum specifically made to discuss the competition needs to be locked, and anyone doing so be some paid conspirator? Was your expectation really that a "Maverick vs X" subforum would exclusively be a blind fanboy club that would reaffirm your purchase decision? All vehicles are a series of compromises, including the ability to hit a price-point (which the Maverick does) but I have to say I haven't met anyone so childish as to demand a thread be locked when I complain about the 23mpg combined fuel economy and lack of a hybrid option in the Santa Cruz in comparison to the far more efficient Maverick in the SC forum I also participate in.

Generally speaking, a forum is intended to share useful information and insight objectively, and not devolve into an echo chamber.

Personally, I think it looks pretty cool. But 1) its really expensive, and 2) it gets horrible mileage without being a Hybrid. But then ALL trucks, and for that matter, all vehicles, get horrible mileage if not a Hybrid.

That's kind of where I'm at. I had pretty much settled on buying a Tuscon, or Rav4 hybrid, early next year. Then I stumbled across the Maverick and Santa Cruz back in March of this year.

My hope was the Maverick, or Santa Cruz, would come in a hybrid variety getting 30's MPG and cost somewhere around $30k for the lowest hybrid trim.

When the Maverick was unveiled as a base-hybrid for $21k, I was pretty much sold. I mean the base model is pretty well stripped-down, but now I get a relatively high trimmed hybrid pick-up for $30k. I am pretty ecstatic.

I cannot justify getting a Santa Cruz, mostly because of the MPG and price.

If but for the Maverick, I would be looking very hard at the Santa Cruz.

Heck...if but for the Maverick, I'd be waiting to see if I could snag an F150 Lightning Pro.

I will probably not get the Santa Cruz, but I'd sure like to see it. I have not dug into the Santa Cruz pricing, but it looks like the base comes with a lot that the base Maverick doesn't. I think similarly equipped vehicles will be closer than what
the base prices show.

I might just stop by my local Hyundai place to see if they have one, just for kicks.

Did the Ford Pinto come with one?
Which models and assembly plants were the Hyundai vehicles you speak of built at? The Bronco Sport is built at the same plant as the upcoming Maverick and has been built a very short period of time yet it has several recalls. As I stated, lets get both the Maverick and Cruz into people's hands, drive them for several thousands of miles and draw conclusions. Lets get them up on lift, pull off some tires and do a few required maintenance checks. Proof is in the pudding, so to speak.
The factory usually has NOTHING to do with recalls. Recalls are largely either design errors or supplier design errors.

Most recalls are minor, like those on the Bronco Sport or are supplier issues like the airbag recalls that hit almost all manufacturers. There’s not a modern vehicle produced wo some recall.

But engine fires like Hyundai? 🤦🏼‍♂️

Reaching back to the Pinto 50 years ago just speaks to grasping at straws.
