Have had XLT hybrid for about two weeks. Like the rotary shifter. An issue today for my wife. She could not get the shifter to move from park to reverse. Parking brake released, foot on brake… nothing. I hopped in turned key off and back on, shifter still would not move. Playing with the knob I just happened to slightly push down and the rotary shifter then moved out of park and into reverse. I’ve read the manual three times (I know, don’t tell me), and don’t remember running across this. Hope this can help someone else!

No need to press it in my XL EB. Not sure what the issue would be with yours.. but you have warranty.

My XL hybrid has to be in Ready mode with my foot on the brake pedal before the rotary shifter unlocks.
This suggests that there are at least two sensors communicating with the shifter lock, one of which may need adjusting on your truck.
Please let us know what you discover!

Ford uses a Stoplight switch on the brake pedal arm to both turn on the brake lights and to send a signal to the shifter lock on that center console. Could be an issue with either: the Stoplight switch or the actual locking mechanism in the shifter itself.

Keep us posted.

Hey there! I can look into your Maverick's rotary shifter concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info?

Just to verify, the cluster definitely showed the truck in "Ready" mode, with the power meter needle between the green charge side and the power side?

Not saying that this is what it was, but I've had a few times where I've got in the truck, went to start real fast then went to throw the truck in gear and nothing happened. Looked at the gauge and the "start" never registered and the ready light wasn't on. Restarted and it was fine.

I have an EcoBoost. Anyone know how to put it in neutral without turning the engine on.

Welcome to the world where certain things needed in cases of emergency, are not allowed for the citizenry. And are over designed and make unneeded modes of failure in the quest of electrification.

a shroud needs to be removed to access a "cable" to be pulled by your fingerers! in the event of true neutral. even this will reset once the P to Drive takes place.

There’s an access panel in the console up under the dash. Iirc, you pry that open and there’s something to pull. Not sure how you put it BACK into park though.

There's a nylon strap under a cover in the tray in front of the cupholders. Remove the rubber cell phone holder cover then pop off the plastic cap to reveal the strap. Pull the strap up until it clicks. The transmission is now mechanically locked in neutral. Push the little white release button next to the strap to disengage to override.

This is only for of the vehicle won't start at all and there's no electrical power. If the truck sees the release pulled without the battery disconnected, it could apply the parking brake as a failsafe.

I have not experienced that, however you provide a very good tip and I’ll keep it in mind. Me? I’d probably have called the dealer and they would have told me to bring it in.. Thanks for potentially saving me a trip to the dealer

Additional info. Not positive but it seems she pulled on the steering wheel getting out of the Maverick, locking it and the shifter won’t move with the steering wheel locked. Turning key off and on and moving the steering wheel seemed to work freeing the shifter up.
