The not stopping isn't an issue - it spins freely past drive going clockwise, or past park going counter.

Perhaps interlock for brake, if pressing decently down on brake allows it to get out of park, or drive to reverse.
Shouldn't take a lot of force, but it's the same as most modern vehicles - need foot on brake.

Do you hear/feel this?

Yes, my rotary shifter makes noise when I press on the brake. I only noticed it about 3 weeks ago. It also rocks the rotary knob back and forth just a bit even though the knob is sitting firmly in a stop.
We have the 'same' shifter knob in our Edge and it too makes the noise and moves back and forth, just to a lesser extent. I drove the truck today and it did not make the noise nor did the knob move.
I'll address it at the next dealer servicing.

So you can't tell from video, but I can sitting there.
While it can be felt in the shifter - the sound is under the plastic covering for the center console.
Direction is not straight from the shifter, but lightly back of it, sounds further down.
Which is why I'm sure it's the interlock.

I’m having the same issue with my 2022 EB - it’s intermittent, so I’m hesitant to take it to the dealer. It’s not related to brake pedal pressure, and my guess is that it’s an interlock issue, but the dial does sometimes have a gritty feeling like there’s sand stuck in there, but spins smoothly when operating correctly.

For those hoping for a rotary shifter alternative I saw that the 2026 Mach E has eliminated the dial and moved the shifter to the column. Maybe there is a change for the Mav in the future?
