Roll Call: Amateur Radio Operators

Aye. My Dad originally got this license, with the help of a local couple who were Amateurs in the 1960's. The older couple let him listen in on a contact with an operator on the other side of the world, and my Dad was hooked. He grew-up as an only child, and the only kid around for miles, in rural Ohio, so the idea of being able to talk to people from around the world was highly appealing.

He's kept up with the hobby, off and on, throughout my life. I've helped him raise and maintain vertical, dipole, and inverted-v antenna's over the years.

He maintained a massive multi-band dipole between 1993 and 20015ish. The ashes of a my Dad's long time best friend, Dan (KB8QZQ), are buried at the base of one of the dipole masts.

My pops will turn 74 this year. He is in pretty good health, but I pray he is still in good health this coming Field Day, because I'd love to go mobile with him in my Maverick that weekend. ...let's hope I get my Maverick by then...

Not planning on installing anything permanent in the Maverick, but I might make a portable rig to take with me when I want it, and leave at home when I don't.

Really waiting for the Maverick to show up, so I can see what's possible and what's not.

N0WXR. Not sure about where to mount my radio or put my antenna yet... but I have only finally got my FE Hybrid on Saturday. I do have a remote head Yaesu, so likely will mount radio behind the back seat and route the head to the front.

I haven't had a base or mobile unit in many years, but do have a few HT's I bring along on trips to monitor. I play around with the GMRS radios too, and find them handy when motorcycling and snowmobiling.
