I’ve used Bounce drier sheets in my Camaro for years, a few in engine bay and a few inside on the floors. No rodent signs.
I have been using the bounce dryer sheets for years also. Put under the seats, one in trunk, and one under the hood. And I lived on a farm with no damage by rodents. I don't use the bounce in my dryer though .

It would be wonderful IF I had a garage but I do not. Always parked outside.
Those of you thinking a garage will "Keep out" the mice.....NOPE. You would be surprised how and where they get in. No where is safe if Mickey wants your harness.....LOL

I've had issues with mice in the past and what I've found to work is to put a handful of moth balls in a tube sock, tie it closed and keep it on the ground under the center of the vehicle.
Problem with that is....some people cannot STAND the smell of mothballs. It is pretty horrible. Bounce dryer sheets on the other hand....or Mint oil are a little easier on the stink.

No argument there. But mice seem to hate the smell more than I do.

I put Bounce dryer sheets in anything I have that sits. People think I'm crazy when I tell them it works. I do use Bounce in my dryer though(one box goes to the basement for laundry, one goes out to the shop for stuffing in equipment)

My neighborhood is filled with feral cats. One even stares at me like he owns my house. Oh well, maybe he wants a raise! Probably why I don't ever see mice or their droppings.

As for the "why" behind the soy based harnesses. It was passed by environmentalist. When our lovely vehicles go to their final resting places, the idea is that whatever is left over will not contaminate the soil. Problem is that wire harnesses are one of the first things that is removed from a vehicle when they are in a scrap yard. But it is what it is.

Why do they use soy in the wire covering? Should use something that would kill the rodents if they chewed them, least the probably would go away eventually.
I have a 2003 Toyota MR2. Don't know when they started using soy wiring but they got into that pretty bad. And all these home remedies never work. Put traps in the car is the only thing that ever worked for me.

I did that and they used it to make a nest.

Sore subject. I built a nice cabin in the mountains and after 2 years had to sell the cabin due to mice getting in. Sealed doors and windows with ZERO luck. Daily breakfast buddy (PhD in Biology, specializing in small manuals, ie: rats). He's convenced me traps and poison will drive them away for a month...rats will figure it out and avoid traps and poison but keep coming back. Rats are near impossible to keep out of a garage or house... especially those living in wooded area...

Soy bean based wiring was a major issue 15 yrs ago...surprised it's being used again. I'd look for a cat(s).

I had a pack rat problem with my trucks. Rid-a- Rat Rat Deterrent seems to have solved most of the problem. It comes in two versions one with a battery pack and one that you just connect to auto battery. I used the pack one in my wife's car and the straight connect in my truck.
Cats don't do well around here dur to coyotes and bob cats. good luck.
