In my 36 years of driving, I have had only a few rock chips on my windshield. I’ve had my Maverick now for 3 months and I’ve had 2 rock chips on my windshield.
Just curious if it’s just me or maybe the glass is softer than others. I just find it odd that I’ve had two in the last three months as opposed to 3 in other vehicles over the last 36 years.

I'm curious what your other vehicles were. I think a truck/pickup would have a more verticle windshield than a sedan, so it would be more prone to getting hit by debris. But I'm just guessing.

The lady friend just got a 2022 nautilus and had 2 significant chips in the first 2 weeks. No chips on her 2018 nautilus.
I know the 2022 she is in now had the sound deadening glass. I can’t say for sure about the 2018

I think its just bad luck. I went 15 years driving without a single rock chip on a windshield and just got one yesterday on my RAV4.

It's probably the windshield angle if I had to guess combined with the lower ride height. I had an old Pontiac Firebird that had such a steep angle on the windshield not even Birds would hit it. They would just slide over the top of the car. Never had a serious Rock impact

I was thinking the same thing. Wondering if there is anything that can be put on the windshield for added protection?

I've considered that in the past with other vehicles but you have to remember that the windshield is designed to shatter into teeny tiny pieces in the event of a crash or large strike. Anything you had to keep it from breaking could possibly result in it coming loose in large sharp decapitating type sections. Maybe just a deflector on the front of the hood?

You're thinking of the glass in every position but the windshield. Windshields are two layer laminated glass that while they will break they will stay in one large piece.

It happens a lot, for about 4 years I was (really the insurance company) was replacing my windshield in my BMW twice a year. Lucky I have that added to my policy.

I’ve had a mix of trucks and sedans

Put the plastic deflector on the front of the hood. It creates an updraft at speed which will help divert and possibly slow some rocks. It will also work wonders from sand pitting the windshield. Come to think of it my CR-V is ten years old and I have not checked my windshield for pitting. Clean windshield inside and out and drive into when it's about 20-25 degrees above horizon. If you have glittering which impairs vision your comprehensive should replace your damaged windshield. When I lived in windy Texas panhandle a windshield would last about 7 years depending.....
