Rock chip in windshield on the way back from getting PPF

You can't make this crap up. I got a large rock chip in my windshield on the highway on the way back from getting partial PPF done on the front end.

Thankfully I have a pretty low deductible. Since they have to recalibrate the windshield I have to take it in to Safelite next week.
The silver lining is that there was a little speck in the windshield on the drivers' side that was driving me crazy, so I guess I'll get that sorted out/replaced

First time I took mine out on the Expressway I got a rock chip on the hood (luckily a glancing blow on the windshield) from a dump truck. Ordered touchup paint but dealer said it could be six months or more. Found some on Amazon that's supposed to be Area 51 touchup. Ordered it and it should be here this week. Just have to wait and see.

Are these trucks prone to cracked windshields? I was driving yesterday and my daughter noticed a long crack on the bottom of the windshield. It actually goes from the passenger side edge all the way to the VIN. I’ve only had it for 3 weeks and haven’t noticed any rocks hitting it.

take it in. This could have been bad placement and not impact related.

I’d advise against Safelite with a new truck. They might do a hack job and cause damage to you dash and A pillars.

It never fails... but if you drive a beater you don't care about nothing ever happens to it.

Safelite ‘s are franchises so to say they might do a hack job on a repair is total unfair. Perhaps your franchise is staffed by hacks but that can’t applied to all.

I have used them here in KY several times and have nothing but excellent service each time.

Run a ballpoint pen along the crack. If there’s a fissure from a chip it will find it..

My F150 was a windshield rock magnet. Hoping the profile for the Maverick is a little better in that regard. I had sooooo many cracks filled on my 2012 F150...

Looks like a stress crack from bad installation. Are the Mavericks prone to failure, only time will tell?

According to Safelite (2014), Gm tops their list of vehicles with the most repairs.

I tried this and there was one little spot where I felt resistance on the pen. It happens to be the only point of the crack that’s above the hood.

I hope so. They are supposed to be replacing mine in my Lariat Lux when they get it in.
Part of me wants to just live with the crack as it's going out and doesn't seem like it will get much worse. Will suck if they damage something or I have Camera issues afterwards.
Hoping it might fix this A pillar rattle that I've tried to fix multiple times. $100 deductible so going to fix it I suppose.

My Ranger had crack after 8k miles and that’s the first thing they did but found nothing and is replacing under warranty. It’s the only time a chip shortage is good…

The guy said that this the third time out of a couple hundred that passed that test. Saves time and aggravation to do it yourself.
