Noticed when out Off-Roading some that the left taillight got hit by a ton of dirt. A well known issue I learned poking around the forum. Found some solutions, but all seamed rather over complicated.
So I did this!
*Got some 'Mabett' mudflaps. (Which likely fixes 90% of the issue.)
*One 'Optix', acrylic 8x10" sheet from Lowe's.
*Nipped the corner of the sheet that will ride on the lower part of the rear 'bumper' that goes to the wheel opening so it sits further out some. Also cut off corner closest to exhaust since hot acrylic smell ain't cool. Drilled a 1/4" hole and used a thru bolt instead of factory push-in fastener on the inside of wheelwell liner.
*Mounted mudflap (OE 'hardware' works fine with these btw.)
*Put an extra screw thru lower right corner since there isn't any real support for the mudflap and to keep it all from being to floppy.
Done!
If the acrylic won't survive (since it's a bit hard to 'thread', it got some cracks) I'll replace it with some softer ABS or polyethylene plastic sheet.
Bet this will keep mud and such out of the area completely.

The acrylic will probably crack or break eventually but this is a pretty good idea.
Try looking into coroplast/signboard too, it's cheap as dirt and doesn't seem to get brittle with time.

I think it will crack more, buy looking at this as a testbed to a big extent. Something a bit softer like ABS or even rubber would be better, and will be sourced if this works as thought. Main thing to see if it's keeps mud out of the rear!

Good job! It's sad though that Ford didn't care about this.

I understand, it's good to test an idea before committing to it's final version.
I'll probably end up making something similar at work, from stainless or aluminum, whatever we've got left laying around.

I thought about using a drop too, have quite a bit laying around, but wanted something that didn't 'stick out'. But shaping some aluminum or stainless would be easy to make an even better fit. This was real quick and will see how it works first.

I've been watching the left rear wheel splash issue for solutions and noticed that WeatherTech has a set of rear mudflaps that seems to address it, shown below.

Has anyone tried these? They are expensive, and I am thinking maybe others will follow with offerings.

Look for Kydex, which IIRC is an acrylic/PVC alloy. (Yes, you can alloy some plastics.) Stuff is absolutely indestructible and really tough, but also easy to work with. (If you have a hard holster for your handgun or edc knife, it's almost certainly Kydex.)

For $45 you can order from ford and get a truck bed cubby that fixes this . I used my fordpass points to get mine . cubby fits either side . I have xlt so already had one on right side . Will need two extra bolts also .

get a truck bed cubby
Been thinking about that also. Never bad with extra storage! 45 bucks sounds way cheap for an OEM part though...

That's what it cost me at my Ford dealership in 10/23 $45 fordpass points . And surprisingly my dealership had one in stock . 2 extra bolts extra which I already had in my collection of nuts and bolts . you can get away with leaving extra holes empty or keep one bolt out and go to hardware store for cheaper replacement . took about 15 minutes to install . remove plate that is there and use the four bolts from that to slip in cubby and bolt in . ta da !

Eh... this one is a bit sketch. Acrylic has a melting point of around 320F but it's a little close to the exhaust for my liking. Do you have a temp gun? I'd definitely be checking temps. It's not the hottest point by any means but it's still likely around 200F+. The RokBlokz leave a lot more space than that which is the only reason I was comfortable with them.
