Cursive lets you write faster. I think that's why it exists.
Correct!

Cursive writing originated as a practical solution to speed up writing - and to protect fragile writing instruments: reed pens, quills, and steel nibs from breaking or drying out.

I have stopped writing in cursive, except in some cases for my signature because many of my staff ( new younger ) could not read it.

:(
This is sad to me because so many of our original historic documents were written in cursive!

Thank you for the very long and descriptive non-answer, to my simple question.
I realize the answer would not have fit your narrative.

I'm 71 years old. I've driven for probably as long as you have if not longer. Growing up on a farm in the midwest I started much younger driving farm implements.
Due to the fact that 50 Children a week are backed over by drivers. Mandated backup cameras were the first step. On the 2026 Maverick I understand that there is a backup braking system now. That will apply the brakes if it detects objects in the way.
The agency's cannot mandate brains into people, so they mandate the equipment.

There is a huge blind spot behind a Maverick without the benefit of the camera.
This is all you can see at 25 FEET out of your rear view mirror or side mirrors of an average four or five year old child is 37" to 42" the blowup is 42".

Everything to do with a low roof line and the inability to mount the rearview mirror any higher up inside the cab.
Think about your rear view "warning object may be closer than it appears" when a Dorf is walking behind your mav!!!

I have read all of the comments for and against teaching cursive to school kids. The argument that technology has rendered it nearly useless carries much weight. So I was thinking there are many more things we can STOP teaching children since technology has rendered things nearly useless . Here's the list I cam up with. I expect rebuttals.
1. How to change a flat tire. With advances in tires over 50 years, fix-a-flat, etc. no need for them to waste time learning how to do it. After all it is UNLIKELY they will ever need to know.
2. How to read at all. They can use the camera function on their phones to read the text to them.
3. First aid. They all have cell phones, they can call 911 if they need first aid.
4. How to cook. Fast food restaurants, Door Dash, Uber eats can deliver meals to you.
5. How to write a check. Electronic payments are everywhere.
6. Math of any kind. There are calculators that can do calculus so why teach them 2 + 2 = 4?
7. How to use a map. GPS has replaced it and we know it works 100% of the time in 100% of the world.
8. Using the rearview and side mirrors when backing up. After all we have cameras to show us video. (not advocating not using cameras)
I am sure there are a few other things we don't need to teach kids anymore. Now a reason to teach cursive. Nearby school district had their internet hacked with ransomware last week. They shut down the system across the entire district. Teachers were told to do lessons in writing since the chrome books and monitors in the rooms were not functioning. The teachers reported that classwork was a a snail's pace since the majority of students can't read cursive and they had to print out the lessons which slowed them down.

Now fire away with the criticisms, I don't care! 😆

You still have to put gas in manually, 😉

I remember a time when I didn't have to put gas in manually.🤣
I remember having a milkman who delivered, a bakery man who delivered, a grocer who delivered, gas stations that had mechanics that would come to your house. The under 30 crowd thinks Door Dash and all these delivery services are NEW ideas. Of course back then it was just part of the small town customer service not a FEE based business.

I remember most milk trucks look like this.👇 The Milkman stood up while driving, when he drove his route.

I know you were just being funny, or at least I hope you were since none of those are even close to a true comparison. Look, I'll leave it at this: I'm not a kid who's yelling at old men to let go of things from the past. I am the old man who grew up on cursive not only through high school but also even used it through most of college.

Do we really want to be the old men yelling from our porches that something should still be used just because it's the way it was when we were younger? Or do we want to do out best to adapt to the times and realize that things change? Again, I'm not saying people our age can't still continue to use it, I'm just pointing out the obvious that it really has no benefit to our current youth so why waste time teaching them something they'll never use other than "because that's how it was when we were young".
