Regardless of what you like I shouldn't have to plug anything in, I don't use Android auto and my original post didn't mention android auto at all and yet people continue to comment on it. I like using the basic radio and it's a piece of trash.

I love the truck, but the radio is shit.
Sorry, just brought up AA as an example that everything was working on mine. You should still ask the dealer if there's a firmware update for the radio or just ask for a new radio.

Edit: Just re-read your original post and there is definitely something wrong with your system and it needs to be replaced.

Android Auto essentially creates an HDMI connection over the USB port, the head end becomes a second screen for the Android device. It has to be high speed since it is pumping video over the link. As soon as the USB degrades to the point that the USB is having to do too much error correction the link will fail.

Apple CarPlay pushes over lower bandwidth data and uses the head end to generate the graphics. This makes it much less susceptible to problems with the cable. But it puts more onto the head end which means a poorly designed head end unit can make the experience worse.
Do you have some links to learn more about these details? This is the first I’ve heard of that.

I've had no issues with the unit itself except for the fact that the screen is pure trash.

Maybe I’m expecting too much, but I’d bet there will be an aftermarket upgrade to delete the cubby and take the whole space up with an infortainment screen.
Hopefully. I would like something decent, preferably from an established car audio brand rather than a generic Android knockoff.

Then I guess you want to use the USB-C port instead of the USB-A? I didn't realize AA was so data intensive, at least compared to AC. I wonder if some are using USB-A instead of USB-C and that's causing problems for them.
That might help, as long as the USB-C cable is good quality. USB-C is definitely made for higher speed.

This article talks about Android Auto, the relevant info is here:
All the display rendering and processing happens on the phone. While Android Auto is running, the phone displays a black screen with an Android Auto logo on it. The car interface is rendered on an off-screen virtual display, encoded as an H.264 video stream sent off to the car along with any necessary audio.
So I was incorrect about the HDMI, but it is sending a video stream over the USB.

Mine has acted up the last two times in the vehicle. First time all I got was the Ford emblem on the screen and no sound. Today the screen seemed to work but the sound from the FM radio and USB Flash Drvie sounded like the exhaust from a motorcycle Brbb....Brbb...Brbbb. It did come back after sitting for a few hours. There was nothing else connected to the system and I have Sync turned off.
