Have read that others are having problems, but this is ridiculous and its getting worse.

Just about everytime I go anywhere the station randomly changes, and at least once a day the physical buttons lock up, and half the time the presets don't work either.

I bought the XL, and I get having to strip certain areas of the truck down to keep the price low, but this radio is a joke.

Edit: I was venting, because the radio is shit, but people continue to post on this, so I will clarify, this has NOTHING to do with Android Auto which I find to he kind of clunky anyways.

The radio is what I am talking about and it is shit. Love the truck, but the radio blows.

It sure is a joke. Android auto is so buggy it cant be used. Even my clock resets itself. You cant even adjust it so it bright enough. Going this route and not giving us actual Sync 3 is the worst decision Ford made. This radio/ head unit is absolute garbage and will be damn near impossible to remedy or change out. Now here come the idiots to tell us what do we expect from a $20k truck.

Right? One can make an exception to the low resolution and low brightness as long as it works.

I haven't any issues with the Lariat Sync 3 system. Although there is nothing really premium about it. It makes no sense why this wasn't the standard system on all trim lines. If anything, the Lariat Lux system with the B&O should have had Sync 4. And if that costs Ford $100 more, they could just have charged $100-$200 more for the Lariat Lux. Maybe even make a few extra bucks.

Have you talked to a dealer about this? I've had my Maverick a couple months already, and aside from an Android Auto glitch (like one single evening), my infotainment system touch screen has worked well, none of the issues you report.

I am not interested in a Chinese Android option, but this vehicle is ripe for an Alpine Restyler kit.
I would pay a bit for that. Surely they could make a panel version that works!

The omission of the Sync 3 begs the question of whether they ever intended to include the 12" display and the cubby is actually designed that way. If so, I bet that designer hates reading the forums and press reviews that conclude the cubby has to be supply chain compromise.

That cubby next to the screen is useless, it serves no purpose whatsoever.

Although it's not something I have strong feelings about, I would have rathered they use the size screen they did and center it over the radio controls than including the cubby. It throws of the symmetry and look and it appears like something is missing. I don't like it tnat I pay top dollar and max spec a vehicle and it appears like it's missing something. Although, in a perfect world, a larger screen would be preferable.

Lol I think you misunderstand -- the cubby is almost certainly a symptom of the pandemic supply chain issues. They must have wanted the 12" screen and probably SYNC4 but had to scrap it in the interest of producing whatever they could. Thus, the cubby was born as a matter of necessity to minimize design changes in the dash.

Of course I could be wrong (Ford hasn't admitted anything about it either way as far as I know) and it's possibly the actual design unrelated to the pandemic, but it seems pretty unlikely. It's a thoroughly useless cubby among otherwise thoroughly simple and utilitarian cockpit.

I think Ford is holding out on many of these vehicles because they made a deal with google to make a new android based infotainment system, sort of like what GM will be doing. Ford seems bent on retiring the Sync system that QNX has done and they are using the holdover systems on many of these vehicles until that new system is ready.

I can only say the apple car play portion has worked well no glitches in the 300 miles I have driven the car since taking delivery, I bought the XL for an inexpensive vehicle not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised at the apple carplay in it . Even syncs up nicely with the dash display for songs display too. My favorite portion is the ability to turn off the screen especially at night when driving so I can concentrate on the road. Yeah contrast could be a little better but I am not watching a video on this thing so no big deal.

Maybe I’ve lucked out but I haven’t had really any of these issues I’ve read on. I’m nearly 4k miles and 3 months of ownership and the only oddity that’s happened is the backup camera has lagged 2 or 3 times and taken between 5-7 seconds to come on after going into Reverse. I use Apple CarPlay 100% of the time, however.

It's a cheap radio at best.
Right. And unfortunately, we're sort of stuck with it.
One of the "great promises" of moving away from standard headunits (i.e. DIN/DIN2), was to let the auto designers integrate seamlessly into the interior without being "inhibited" by a standard form factor. I would have preferred a hole in the dash to which I could add something premium rather than spending a ton on DSPs/EQs trying to improve the audio. The result is being left to deal with glitchy technology that won't even play mono AM as reliably as my 'ol 1970's beater.
