So the LED stays in but is the chrome still on an insert than can be removed? May just be a more tedious process.

It will be a few months before my truck is ready. There is time to gather the information.

Yes, the LED's stay in as they're built into the housing. The Zep/Water mix will get into the LED's and well Zep/Water doesn't play well with electronics. I just bought a set of BAP tailights for my lariat trim and called it a day.

Led comes off the taillight, I just did mine.
However, I tried getting lenses off my lariat headlights for about 2 hours and finally gave up after I tried putting tinfoil on the rack under the headlight and melted 3 holes through the back of the housing and melted one mount off.
