I’ve seen some people swap their steering wheels for fiesta focus escape ones and I want to do the same however I had some questions the other threads didn’t answer

- will it void any warranty? Whether its airbag related or in general the bumper to bumper?

- if I have the hybrid version -before removing the airbag do I need to disconnect the 12v battery under the backseat or do I have to disconnect the high voltage battery as well somewhere?

- does removing the airbag gets recorded in the system somehow?

Wanted to swap just the shell so I can have proper leather wrapped wheel, so from my understanding if I take the trim and controls from my steering wheel and put them on the one I buy I wont have to program anything?
I just dont like the plastic wheel..

If you have an XLT there is not a lot of advantage to swapping. You would need to reprogram the computer to use the new wheel too, so learn how to do that first.

I think this was being done to add cruse control but you already have that.

Maybe your doing this just to change the look, but it sounds like a lot of work for that.

I have an XL hybrid. I added cruise by just swapping the switches. I only disconnected the battery under the seat. If you are interested in just swapping the switches, I have a spare left hand switch, which is the cruise side switch I’d make you a deal on, PM me. I do not think the computer logs modules or devices being disconnected, just modified. The wheel swap or switch swap will not void the warranty as related to issues outside the parts you swap. Obviously, they won’t warranty a cruise issue if you swapped a wheel to put in cruise, but if unrelated issues arise you’re fine.

….. I see now you have cruise, just swapping the wheel.

I understand that, leather will be a nice upgrade.

From the post above it does not sound hard because your not adding anything besides the leather. Post a wright up on the swap when you do it. I may want to do it too.

I believe the clock spring can be different between a heated and non-heated steering wheel. So try to get a wheel that has the same features, to make it a simple swap.

Somewhere on MTC a true leather wrap was added to the steering wheel, it was sewn on just like factory, $50 range I believe . A lot less trouble and no worries about warranty or air bag.

Just added a leather wheel to my Maverick, the non heated clockspring has the female plug to accept the heater plug from the wheel but it has no connection pins in it to power the heater so it will hold the heat er plug but not power it.

Hey man this is exactly what I am trying to do now, I want to upgrade my XLT from urethane to leather (non heated) . I ordered this PN ( NZ6Z-3600-CA ) from a ford dealer online and I was expecting it to be the leather wheel, w/o heated w/std cruise, however it came in fully in urethane (plastic).

What is the PN that you ordered?

Regards.

I ordered off eBay a mint\new condition leather non heated that came I believe from a focus. from what I researched focus , bronco sport, new escape etc all use the same steering wheel frame.

when I got it I removed my steering wheel (following DIY threads over here), I removed the plastic trim on both wheels and moved over the left and right switches from the Mav to the new one together with the wiring harness just to make sure everything will be wired the same so basically I was just using the "frame" of the new steering wheel. I did use the plastic trim of the new steering wheel as the clips were slightly in a different locations.

Connected everything back and it worked... Overall very easy installation minus the stress of dealing with the airbag removal..

I believe the # you are looking for is NZ6Z3600EA. I actually purchased my wheel from a recycling yard in Roseville California. It came off a less than a month old wrecked in the rear Bronco Sport. I found it on Car-Part.com and paid $200.

Ok, thanks everyone. I will take a look at the carparts page to see if I get lucky.
I believe the PN should be the "E" one too.

NZ6Z-3600-EA <--- Steering Wheel. Leather, w/heated, w/o adaptive cruise.

The price is a little high ~$450usd. from online dealerships.

So focus , bronco sport, new escape are the ones I could look for at recycling yards.

Regards.

Sorry about reviving this old thread. Just want to confirm you put a heated wheel into your non-heated truck and the clock spring was no problem matching up. (I’m not looking to add heat but the wheel I found is heated).
Thanks!
