My MY24 Lariat Hybrid has a non-AGM battery, yet my As-Built shows an AGM battery. My question is would the SOC that is displayed using CarScanner be different if the system was actually set to the type of battery that is in the truck? I have a Genius 10 battery maintainer on the truck for a week and the highest SOC reading I get with CarScanner is 64, yet my cheap BM6 battery monitor says it is at 100 (ties directly to the +/- terminals on the battery). So, I was curious if the battery type has anything to do with the SOC that the OBD2 port reports.

Only Ford and their engineers can address this issue on 2022 to 2024 hybrids. Looks like the 2025 models have an AGM battery.

I know about the future recall/fix. My question was does the type of battery FLD/AGM in the As-Built/ FORScan effect the reported ODB2 port output/CarScanner SOC.

AGM requires a different charge profile then lead acid.

AGM:
  • Requires lower voltage (13-15) but higher amperages
  • resting voltage is roughly 0.4v higher than lead acid
Lead Acid:
  • Can/should be charged with higher voltages (15-17) but lower amps
  • resting voltage is roughly 0.4v lower than AGM
So, it's possible the Ford AGM selection that Forscan is showing may be affecting the charge profile of the DC-DC system that oversees the charging of our batteries, and it is not optimized for maximizing lead acid life span. This is just a hypothesis.

Overall I feel the bigger issue is draw on the system, Ford needs to be more forthcoming with information and why it's happening. It's important to note that it is not just the Maverick, but Ford Escapes have been experiencing this for several years as well.

Putting an AGM in 2025 Maverick Hybrids tells me they need to put them in all 2022 - 2024's !

It Is a draw. Brought my 2024 in with low battery issue. Here is the work order quote.
20 confirmed. Checked Oasis and found SSM #53087, Special Service Message.
Engineering is currently working on a fix for an intermittent battery draw (read attached). Disconnected battery and tested per SSM. Battery test passed, reset BMS. No repairs at this time.
They won't replace the battery until you are at or below 40% state of health on full charge.

WHY DID FORD SELL ME THIS TERD IN MAY WHEN THEY KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND DIDN'T FIX IT YEARS AGO!

Did you ever get an answer you liked on this? I recently posted seeing ~ 64% SOC on a battery that I had sitting on a charger overnight starting with ~54%. I would have thought it should read higher and someone recommended checking it after it sat and let the BMS catch up. I just went in and changed my battery type to flooded and target SOC to 95% but not sure if that will have any effect. The replies stating "install an AGM" may point to the ultimate fix but don't help understand if there are incremental improvements that can be made.
