No, for a couple of reasons;

1) Can't justify spending $800 to bring a $6 stick of conduit home a couple of times a year

2) The Elevate (or similar) rack would be a violation of the HOA I live in, as it would look like a "work" truck. They very specifically have told me "no ladder racks".

That's cool, I understand.
I wonder what a HOA would tell me if I told them I don't have a ladder rack, I have a recreational rack? LOL

So I've been spoiled by being able to fit 8-10' lengths inside my company-supplied SUV, with some scrap lumber and a little carpeting, I think this will work well. At 14" long, they fit nicely under the back seat.

smallest caliber potato gun I've seen. Still, should keep those pesky tailgaters back.

I did this once. With my maverick. I thought I am so stinking smart to MacGyver this. That is until the edge of the PVP pipe scratched my dash. Sad Face. Although it does match my driver's side door where my fiberglass cast made its signature. I'll never forget that time I broke my arm...I think I would have remembered it anyways but the fates felt like they needed to make sure I guess.

I’ve been hauling long lumber and trim like this for many years. The short bed of the Maverick makes it necessary. A folded towel on dash and one on rear window glass, red flag on rear end, tiedown load to hitch. The load does not move.
No it doesn’t. I haul 9-10’ lumber in the bed. I put the tailgate at it angled position, strap it down across the tailgate, and stick a flag on the end. Hell of a lot safer than this set-up.

The longest board of these few I was hauling is 9.5’ long. Hell of a lot safer to haul this way. I did have a flag on that longest board, but took it off before I took this pic.

What is not safe with this setup?

That’s why I will never live in an HOA. People aren’t gonna tell me what I can park in my driveway and build in my yard, all while I hand them money to be a member, that’s just stupid.

I really suggest people don’t do this. Get racks for lumber or other stuff. I’ve seen two accidents involving this type of setup - in one the lumber was pushed through the windshield. The other was a suv that had a kayak in it that went through. Luckily in both cases it was a direct rear end. I could see a hit from the side or at the angle causing the wood to snap or be pushed right at head level and decapitating someone.

You do not want objects from the bed area extending into the cab area.
In my 79+ years I have seen many things. Once while ripping a 2x6 to a narrower width on a 2.5 hp radial arm saw (220 volt with 16-18" blade) internal stress in the 2x6 split it into 5-10 pieces which were then thrown up to 30 feet. One splinter about six feet long was stuck several inches into a bundle of lumber at that 30 ft. Unlike a lot of people who stand at the end of the saw while ripping I have always stood at the side of the saw while pushing my lumber as a safety precaution as my uncle taught me. Rule # ? = Expect the unexpected! Yes that was a big saw and when installing new blade wrench was tapped 3-4 times with 2lb hammer past as tight as could be achieved by hand (uncle did not have torque wrench). I was graduated from nanny care at 11 and got to work but was not allowed to touch saw until I was 14 or 15. At 11 my $0.75 weekly chore allowance was increased to a few $ and at 14 I could make $12.50/week plus second helpings at lunch for non school weeks. Never went hungry but after served plates if I wanted more there was pot of all you wanted pinto beans on stove!👌

I'd probably never live in a HOA either. If I did, they'd have to be on the tame side with their rules. I like the idea that my next door neighbor couldn't let his yard turn into a jungle or paint his house in polka dots, but HOAs attract Nazis and control freaks.
