So I've been spoiled by being able to fit 8-10' lengths inside my company-supplied SUV, with some scrap lumber and a little carpeting, I think this will work well. At 14" long, they fit nicely under the back seat.

Had not thought about how to use the rear sliding window till I saw your post. Thanks.

Physics says, don't slam on the brakes.
I agree. I had 2 ten and a half ft. poles and put a small pillow against the windshield. I didn't use anything else except having my wife hold down the poles, which was no strain. The poles rested on the bottom of the rear window opening and the bed cover and almost extended to the end, but not over, so no red flags needed.

I’ve been hauling long lumber and trim like this for many years. The short bed of the Maverick makes it necessary. A folded towel on dash and one on rear window glass, red flag on rear end, tiedown load to hitch. The load does not move.

Wouldn’t it be less dangerous to put that thing on top of the roof? I mean you don’t wanna have it fly thru the windshield in an event of a crash

25 Years as a Paramedic and I will tell you that if you rear end somebody YOU just killed the passenger with a 14 foot spear. Not even a loop around the conduit as a choke?? Your conscious not mine.

I really suggest people don’t do this. Get racks for lumber or other stuff. I’ve seen two accidents involving this type of setup - in one the lumber was pushed through the windshield. The other was a suv that had a kayak in it that went through. Luckily in both cases it was a direct rear end. I could see a hit from the side or at the angle causing the wood to snap or be pushed right at head level and decapitating someone.

You do not want objects from the bed area extending into the cab area.

Is that electrical conduit? You could always just cut them in half and join with a coupler at installation time.....

Good luck...

.
That wouldn't be as cool............

Towel on the dash......that is how my wife hauls 8' lumber in her Telluride :)

Next time you hit a deer, you will spear it at the same time.
