As with “RUMORS” I wouldn’t count on holding out for awd hybrids or anything that may or may not happen - just like waiting for Ford to lower the price when the competition starts 🤷‍♂️ however for the other questions I don’t believe you would need awd for any campgrounds since usually people are pulling trailers, etc through and usually not very rough terrain? It’s only upto you if you can do without your vehicle to sell for good prices - but please keep in touch with reality that this market can’t last forever and many of the auto companies are getting more vehicles made/delivered every day so it will be going back soon as supply is restored.

Here are my questions:
  1. Will FWD be okay enough to get around NJ/NY mountain campsites and such?
Or should I wait for AWD as rumored?

  2. I will be trading in my current vehicle or sell it on carvana to put it towards the down payment,
Considering my vehicle will go down in value, should I sell it right now and eat up that pesky dealer marks ups?

  3. Or, should I accept the depreciation and just wait for the inventory to catch up?
Also, since there is a rumor that other brands might launch hybrid compact trucks, should I wait for the Maverick's price to drop?
1) Hard to say without seeing the site.....but probably yes if it's a public site. Waiting on "rumors" is foolish. If you want AWD, get the EB.

2) Keep it until you have a replacement. Walking is not a good long term option.

3) Maverick prices are not going to drop, they will keep going up.

Now, put your pants on and make a decision. 🤠

In my opinion, get the XL Ecoboost AWD. My 2 reasons : first, the 2.0 hasn't had all the issues that the hybrid has had ( fires, etc) and I'm getting 31mpg mixed highway/ country road driving. Second: I live in northern Jersey , and you don't need AWD ...until you need it ! Here, you will never regret having AWD ! Trust me . Want a great, honest dealership... Nielson Ford in Wantage NJ !!! Ordered my XL Ecoboost AWD in January '22 , took ownership in April '22.

Don't take your FWD Maverick anywhere you wouldn't take a FWD Escape. The rest of your questions require ESP And a crystal ball; unfortunately, I have neither.

Maverick pros, I need your help and opinion on this.

I'm considering Maverick XL Hybrid for a few reasons.
  • Save gas on my daily commute.
  • For camping, outdoor activities, and picnics with my 2 kids on the weekends.
    • Mostly camping in the state park or campsites
    • Nothing too extreme or overlanding.
Here are my questions:
  1. Will FWD be okay enough to get around NJ/NY mountain campsites and such?
Or should I wait for AWD as rumored?

  2. I will be trading in my current vehicle or sell it on carvana to put it towards the down payment,

  3. Or, should I accept the depreciation and just wait for the inventory to catch up?

How can I make the switch to Maverick without too much $$$$$$$
Please help this poor newb soul.

Thank you
1. Go for the AWD Ecoboost. The wait is too long for a Hybrid. The Ecoboost is powerful enough to spin tires on slippery pavement. AWD gives good traction on slippery starts.

2. Wait to sell unless it's an extra car. There is no mark up when you order.

3. Inventory wil not catch up for a long time. Order and wait. The more you wait, the more you pay so get in line ASAP if you think you want one.

I checked out Maverick today.
Just wow... take my money...

Fortunately, I woke up after hearing that stealership wants $7,500 on top of msrp.

Y'all lucky

Grew up 20 miles NW of Exit 153. You could go either way, but knowing is half the battle. I drive differently (slower) in the Hybrid than my old AWD Subaru in bad weather. Hydroplaning, slipping on snow/ice, etc. I can get away with it here in the DC Piedmont where it's not nearly as extreme hills or snow. Either way (Hybrid/AWD), I'm planning on snow tires so I can head to ski areas in the snowier states and be prepared for the occasional local snowfall.

I am impressed by the Hybrid's downhill assist but the stock tires will not be good in winter weather.

"Ask hikers in your area what kind of vehicles they are using to get to the campsites."

Did you say "hikers"? ; I thought at first you said "hookers"!

I can see someone gearing up for a hike just to ask other hikers questions. Show up at the start of the trail heads, hang around for a bit... first sight of someone: "hey what car did you drive up here today?" then leave after they answer... Make sure you head towards the direction they parked too.
