I have never ordered a vehicle before so this would be new to me. After seeing what others have posted where they placed an order then dealer adds extra COST when there vehicle comes it I have to ask what has happened to others. I am in Western NY and will TRY and place an order for Hybrid come August 16th.

Will the dealer give me a written quote? Is that the norm? Can they be held to that quote or is it worthless paper? Can they just ad stuff when it comes in like i read in one post they added Market Value cost of several GRAND. Or added Ceramic coating of 1500.. WTF they can just ad crap without asking and say take it or leave it? All my past purchases were off the lot. Different makes and dealers each time. So no trusted dealer for me.

I want to order a XLT Hybrid with just a few options. No extra cost beside dealer prep were several dealers told me about 200 to 300 for that.

Many say find a good dealer. Well I have no clue how to do that. Sure look at yelp reviews and dealerrater.com. I read them not much real info found . Mostly about service work not sales.

I know a few folks on here have ordered through the major Ford dealers around the Buffalo area (Towne, West Herr, De Lacy) and I haven't seen them yell about getting screwed. Mine should be arriving at Dave Smith imminently and they seem on the up and up from Bronco buyers. Also might do invoice pricing. I believe Van Bortel over in Rochester was also doing invoice pricing or near to it.

Honestly, most dealers out there are honoring MSRP pricing the only reason you read so many "horror stories" on here is because just like all reviews most people are inclined to post about a negative experience versus a positive one.

So onto your original question. Chances are very slim that you get the dealer you choose to sign anything legally binding when it comes to pricing. It just doesn't happen all that often. Sure some guys on here are always going to say "Make sure you get your dealer to sign a written price agreement when you order" but that rarely happens. Most of the time the dealer will NOT do that even if you ask.

I'm one of the guys who suggests that people get a signed buyer's order when they place their order.

I didn't have any trouble getting one from my dealer. (I shopped at two dealers for my Maverick and both were willing to sign.) And I've seen several posts from others whose experience was just like mine.

But I understand you to be saying that my experience is unusual and that most dealers won't sign a contract at the time of order even if you ask them to do so.

I don't read every post on here, but I don't recall seeing many people report that kind of refusal. Mostly I've seen posts by folks who didn't know what a buyer's order was, didn't request one at the time they ordered, and only became concerned about price bumps later on.

So... Is it really the case that most dealers will not sign a buyer's order even if a customer requests one at the time they are considering placing an order? Or are you talking about how it goes if the customer comes back late in the game, after the dealer already has their order in the bag?

My buying experience: OC, CA dealers will not sign a buyers order but will agree to the Retail Order that goes through the ROVP/COVP. The Retail Order must have the client's full name, email address, home or mailing address, and phone number. Once it is placed into ROVP, it will be assigned a order number that can be used to track.

However, with this first round (2022 MY) ordering being such a clusterf#@^ and confusing, Ford may likely change things around on the ordering system (both the customer site AND dealer ROVP/COVP) to insure better responses for 2023 MY.

My dealer gave me a signed Retail Buyers order without any prompting. I would pass on any dealer that won't give you one.

So I want to get a "Signed Retail Buyers Order" Just want to make sure what will best protect me. So I do the build on Fords web site come this August 16th. I then go "right away" same day to said dealer and ask to get the order placed with a Signed Retail buyers Order. If they refuse, then leave dealer go back to Fords web page do another build pick another dealer then go to dealer and do my best to get Signed Retail Buyers Order. Or maybe go before hand to dealer and ask if they will give me one before I do anything. Maybe a few days before August 16th. Hopefully find a dealer that will then on August 16th pick that dealer during build on Fords web page. .

With this Buyer Order it will have my information so Ford tells ME how the build is going along.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

You can go to any dealer you choose on Aug 16th, you won't need a reservation. Just ask them up front for a signed buyers order with an agreed upon price. Ask about incentives, too.

I would start doing the dealer leg work now.....start with your closest dealer, and if they don't want to play ball, move to the next one. Tell them what you want to do, and how you want to do it....eventually, you'll find a dealer with integrity who wants to earn your business. You might also query friends/family/workmates who have recently purchased a Ford product, to get their thoughts.

I think this stage is best done face to face, if possible, especially if you are good at "reading" people.

Good luck!

Took delivery and it was something of a mixed bag. Frustratingly they tried to do the deal all backwards. Had to go through the whole argument that invoice price protection is a thing, etc. The finance salesman was actually the most reasonable to work with. In the end at least it was relatively quick and I have a Maverick in the driveway now, but I wouldn't say they get a glowing recommendation.

Thanks for letting me know. I am leaning toward West Herr Ford in Getzville right now .
