Im looking for patterns (would like to get a link.......) for my Maverick too. Im considering putting a paint protective film on myself. A company I use for vinyl signs ( Fellers) sells Avery Dennison paint protective film (8mil- SPF1000- $3.83 sq ft). They sell other films as well such as a 3M window film. Not as difficult as you may think to install using a liquid floating technique.
That would be an awesome price!

Where can I get a small amount of PPF to protect the area where the Ford mudflaps are known to damage the paint? It seems it is only sold in huge rolls.

To film...or not to film...that is the question.
All depends on how long you are going to keep it.
Nothing worse than deteriorating film. And it does deteriorate, even the "good" stuff. Then there are the rock chip areas on it that get dirt under the edge and look horrible. Then try to remove it. Some will tell you it peels off. Sort of. In pieces more often than not. Leaves much adhesive behind. Old adhesive is very hard to remove. 3M decal wheel is about the only thing that won't kill the paint and get these films/adhesive off.
It is LESS time involved for me to repaint the front of the car than to remove film from hood/fenders/bumper.

Paint protection film is not designed to be left on a vehicle forever. It should be replaced after about six or seven years on a daily driver. If film is installed properly (on top of a waxed surface), it will not take long to remove. The last car I traded in was completely covered with film and it took less than a half hour to remove, the car had over 40,000 miles on it and the film had been on for about five years. Six months ago, a 2011 black Corvette come in with a twelve-year-old full front install that took about an hour to remove.

Glue is no problem if you use the right adhesive remover, just let it sit on the glue for about ten minutes and you can wipe it off. Letting the car sit in the hot sun for a couple hours also makes removal easier.

I do agree it can be difficult to remove if you have let the film deteriorate to the point where it is cracking, but an honest installer will tell you up front how to take care of the product and should know how long the product they use will last.

Hello,
I’m shopping for paint protection film for my Maverick - mini bra - front bumper and leading edge of hood. Dealer quoted $1,500 for XPel. Seems outrageous, but I’d like to know what’s reasonable and who to call. Also, I’d there a big difference between 3M and XPel, and is XPel worth the extra cost. I’m also interested in DIY if I can find pre-cut for the Maverick.
I watch a video on this and it seemed like 3M had the best product.

I'm looking to put protective film on my windshield as well.
I know... a guy... who put ceramic tint all around on his F-150. The difference in how much heat gets in is amazing and the windshield made the most difference because I... I mean He had the windshield done two weeks after the rest of the truck because they didn't have the very light tint ceramic in stock. Anyway, the steering wheel doesn't even get hot in the summer sun any longer. PLUS, no dorky sun shield! (Yes, I'm in Nebraska but the tint was done in Alabama and the summer sun is brutal in both places. The humidity, on the other hand...)

I don't know anyone who has ever put film on the outside of their windshield. It IS illegal in this state so that could be why I haven't heard of anyone doing that.

Lots of interesting facts about the films. It would be nice to have something on the rocker panels and front bumper and hood.
I guess I don’t quite get the ceramic windshield idea. In Michigan you must be able to see through the windshield and front seat windows. There are some vehicles around town that are so dark I don’t see how they can be driven.
Things sure have changed with the cops as this was a sure ticket when people started tinting their windows.

Does the material availble through Ford yellow or discolor?

FYI: I just filled up my hybrid for the first time since delivery. The truck gas milage was 42.14 MPG.
There was 542 miles on the tank. I was tempted to try for 600 miles however upon filling it I don’t think that I would have made it.
So far I am apprehensively happy with it.
I never had the opportunity to drive or sit in one prior to purchase. I was afraid that the truck was going to be another puddle jumper which I am very tired of driving. I am 6ft 4 inches tall and there is plenty of leg room.

A local body shop contracted with a Chicago suburb firm to come and do the Xpel to do my front hood leading edge (about 15") incl outer fender area, front fascia, lights, lower front bumper, and outside mirrors for about $650

Have an update for us? I was contacted by my dealer today about aftermarket stuff I want done by them. They are asking 2k for front head, front fenders, full hood, door edges, and mirror caps (painted on the lariat).

I am also in in MN so this is relevant!

I had a 3M PPF on a 1965 Shelby Cobra. In the hot Texas sun, (after being on the car 8 years) it started cracking and it was an excruciating pain in the butt to remove. WARNING don't let this happen! It cost more to remove the cracked PPF than it cost to install it.

I have PPl on my 2020 Shelby and its great. I don't think many shops who use the 3m product anymore . It It tends to yellow as it gets older. I only did the front clip and it really works.

I have Suntek Ultra installed on my Mav (east coast after delivery prior to cross country trip back) for full front, cost around $2K. Current common PPF include Xpel, Suntek, and STEK (all with hydrophobic properties, and 10 year warranties). 3M is on the market and is the old school type PPF carrying a 7 yr warranty (longest they offer).

If you want to keep resale value and plan on getting rid of it in 2-7 years, PPF may be a good investment.

I used Suntek PPF which i installed from PPF in Scottsdale, AZ and it's a quality product. It's easy to apply, has good self-healing properties, and looks great when properly installed. I'd recommend it to anyone considering PPF for their vehicle.
