I was driving down the freeway and my truck when into reduced power mode, displaying " Powertrain malfunction/Reduced power, engine service soon, and precollision assistance not available". This ended up slowing me rapidly from 65 down to under 20 miles. I almost had a semi slam into the back of me missing me by inches. I had it towed to a dealership that day, and it took them a week and multiple test drives to tell me that that cannot recreate this issue. I was told by the shop foreman that there was a issue and that could see it in the vehicles history. The dealership and ford motor company has put me in limbo and is unable to assist with a rental, due to them being unable to find the issue that cause this near death experience.

Have seen several of these in the last couple days. I think, people who did the last recall. (I am also on a Facebook Mav group)
I don't remmeber if there were any fixes, but they are all basically the same thing. Dealers don't know. People really upest because dealers send them away and it happens again. No accidents YET. Lots of close calls like you.
Be safe.

Im having a problem with the powertrain module too. Its been at the dealer for a week. I got it back today but it had the same problem so I returned it. They have not been able to fix it. This problem all started about 30 miles after the recall was done on it. They did a reprograming of the powertrain module I think.

I was looking at this thread for the "
Powertrain AWD/4WD Fault (Reduced Power)"
They indicated the problem for those was from a bad PTU or possible shift selector unit.
Possibly a parallel to what we are having.

Perhaps the dealership and ford motor company seem to have me in a limbo and gave me 2 options either do a extended service warranty or a buyback

I am holding out and not doing the powertrain recall until this issue is resolved as it does seem to be related to the powertrain recall.

Either the software has a bug or it is caused by the dealership doing the recall and not reconnecting something firmly.
I asked them about check plugs and things but they insist its a programing issue. Im with you wait. its pretty scary when it happen. Both times it was on the freeway for me. Lucky traffic was light at the time.

That’s not good. Sounds like a bunch of similar issues after doing the recall software updates… I will hold off on the recalls for now.

I remember when soft wear in a truck only referred to the upholstery.
