Did not read all posts to see if others had my experience:
1985 new Nissan 300ZX expensive for my young Army enlisted self ( used my Re-Up bonus for down payment. Every time I parked a a far away spot in the PX or Commissary lot when I cam out was surrounded by trucks and cars....every time....hint #1 some dings

2001 F250 Ford Platinum Triton V10 4 door 4x4 long bed new truck, exact same experience hint#2 some dings

2005 F350 King ranch 4x4 long bed new truck customer order (wanted the V10) same exact experience Hint#3 some dings

2008 Newly imported by Penske Smart cars, yes 2 of them ($4.11 gas in my F350 11MPG truck was eating out lunch in daily commute. Wife and I used the Smart cars to commute and they paid for them selves fast...Parking...you guessed it no mater where we parked away from others, surrounded every time Hint #4 some dings

2016 Traded the King ranch for a new customer order first year Lincoln MKC....taking the hints and ding experiences and started parking my DV plated new car close to the door of every shopping center.... no dings

Late 2016 traded the POS Lincoln for a new 2017 Jeep Cherokee ($10,00o cheaper and better creature comforts and power same MPG) again parked close and the one ding I did with a shopping cart..long story

2018 traded the low mileage 2016 Cherokee for a new model same SUV now with ACC and other electronic gizzmoes.... Sold last year with 8000 miles for $2500 more than I paid for it..no dings or scratched despite close in parking

A bit off topic BUT that custom order Lincoln MKC (without chip shortages) had serious issues with Ford Sync, Remote start, leaking sunroof, leaking rear electric Hatch, interesting start stop behavior, and new EcoBoost 2.0L engine was gutless IMO and CC up hill with 6 gears to choose always chose poorly...and fuel mileage was not even close to sticker EPA numbers

With that experience I still wonder what possessed me to custom order this 2022 Mav with all the gizzmoes, Lux, and another shot at EcoBoost 2.0L

Some time ago the wife and I had ordered a pizza for pickup and were waiting in our then new HRV, quite a distance from the store entrance. Up pulls a full-size SUV, immediately next to us, with piles of open spots elsewhere. Sure enough, the passenger door opens at 70 mph, right into the front driver fender, creased the hell out of it. Lady looked at me like it was my fault for being there!

I work hard for my stuff. I take care of it best I can. If parking out in a certain spot reduces dents and dings then that’s what I will do. I have no problem walking from a distant spot.

Usually the lazy drivers park with the other lazy drivers who don’t care about anybody else’s car because it’s just a car.

All of my vehicles have zero dents, dings, scrapes etc. I tribute that to careful parking where most lazy careless drivers avoid parking at because they are too lazy to walk the xtra distance.
Every time my car has been hit is when I've specifically parked away from other people.
