The outcome of my situation was I took it to the dealer and they determined that the battery was low. Replaced the battery and the issue has not reoccurred. The odd thing was I had the battery checked at a local shop after the first incident and it tested at 80%, so the shop didn't recommend replacing the battery. While at the dealership I also had service recalls performed, so possibly the issue might have been related to one of the recalls. I haven't had any other issues with the vehicle.
Another vote to carry my noco GB50 Boost. Plus Battery at 80% for any reason = Time to put noco G5 maintainer (hybrid) or noco G10 maintainer on battery for a WEEK TO ALLOW OPTIMIZATION PROCEDURES TO THOROUGHLY COMPLETE.

So the dealership got back to me today (almost a week later) and this was their response.

Programming - Update: Found multiple codes set for ABS module.
A programming update is a service that is preformed newer vehicles. As technology progresses, cars are made with many computers. Programming updates are essential to keep the the vehicles electrical and mechanical systems working as intended

They are wanting me to pay almost $400 dollars for this. This seems odd that I should pay for a computer programming issue that they designed and installed. Has anyone else been told this?

I would think that would be under warranty. A bug in the software would not be your fault.

My similar issue was fixed under warranty (my 2022 vehicle has 15k miles). The dealer did not mention anything about a programming update.

My truck has 51k mileage. It’s past warranty, but still seems like an issue I shouldn’t pay for since I didn’t create it nor is it wear and tear.

So if the battery is too low to engage the parking brake system (manual also mentions how to use this as emergency brake, so perhaps it's at the top of 12V systems that need to operate for safety reasons), could it also now be too low to start the vehicle?

So basically a deep deep sleep mode where parking brake is given precedence over starting the truck.
Because attempting to start the truck doesn't guarantee the engine would run to recharge the 12V system, but could suck enough juice off to make the parking brake unable to use - so a failsafe would be there is an issue with charging system, don't start engine. Use the last of battery for potential parking brake usage.

Of course throw in some sensor reading issue, where actually the battery has enough juice but doesn't read that way, and you got a problem.

Were there any signs of deep sleep mode prior to the incident?

No indications whatsoever. Everything was operating fine. Pulled up to a red light and when I let off the brake everything locked up and shut down. Hazard lights were going bonkers and multiple warning coming up on the dash read out.

Yesterday while stopped in traffic on a busy city street (2022 Eco Boost Maverick), the Parking Brake Fault - Service Now warning went off. The engine was on auto off at the time and would not restart after multiple attempts. Also, I could not put the vehicle into neutral, and the vehicle was effectively immobilized in traffic. I tried multiple times to remove the key, reinsert the key, and restart the engine. Eventually a patrol officer was able to stop behind my vehicle, was unable to start the vehicle with the key, popped the hood, and I believe disconnected and reconnected the battery cable, which allowed the vehicle to get put into neutral. After getting pushed off the road, the vehicle restarted. The vehicle drove fine home and seems fine today with no service warnings.

I had the battery tested today and that was not the issue. The app shows no issues. I am wondering if anyone has encountered a similar issue. Perhaps a bad sensor. I will take it to the dealer but it is troubling having no idea whether this will happen again. For now I just plan to turn off auto stop-start. I don't know how to override the error and force it to restart if the issue reoccurs. I would have tried remote start but didn't have a chance at the time.
Wow! Frightening experience. One thing to have this happen in your driveway, totally traumatic to have it on the road in traffic. Glad nothing more serious came of it.

Please let us know what comes of your dealer visit. Hopefully, they can not only fix the problem, but can advise you on what to do if it happens again.

This has been an issue in my other two non-Maverick vehicles. I understand the safety perspective for an electronic parking brake, but they’ve been super inconvenient for me.

Hi.

Few months ago mine was having similar issues, it did show the brake fácil warning few times, then disable the auto stop, then didn't started few times, Lucky I have my lil jump started. Ford replaced the 12V battery and never ever have that problem again.

The ford tech told me if the battery voltage is too low it would show problem with modules, he also xplain that now alternators aren't like they used to be, on the past they used to create lots of power, now days in the name of efficince the power is way more limited than before, so we use and deplete our batteries way more often than before, on the past you could disconect the battery and you could drive almost normally, now days that's not longer the case.

Nah, that tech is just high on some "they don't build 'em like they used to". Go back 20+ years and most alternators were only like 105-120 amps unless you got an upfit package which might need to slap on a secondary or some huge Leece-Neville. Modern alternators are higher power because of all of the electrical loads and so they can recover charge fast and then unload the parasitic draw on the accessory drive.

Good news. The dealer installed the software upgrade and they covered it. I didn’t have to pay anything. I’m glad that they did the right thing. They did an extended test drive afterwards and had no issues. I picked it up this afternoon after hours, so I didn’t get to ask for recommendations on what to do if it happens again. I plan on calling in the morning to ask. So far so good.

Bad news. The upgrade has not been successful. I’ve contacted the dealer and plan on taking it back in. It has shut down twice since the upgrade but after about 30 minutes it started back up. Annoying. It seems to be associated with the auto start stop feature and/or the auto parking feature that engages when on a steep grade and I shut off the truck. I will update when I have more info.
