Decided to paint my cowling. Other than it being a little time consuming, it was pretty easy to do.

supplies:
-spray paint of choice (Kustom Canz color match paint $30 shipped)
-clearcoat (1k clear duplicolor $20 autozone)
-blue painters tape (already had)
-brown masking paper ($5 lowes)
-maverick vinyl tailgate lettering. ($2.50 ebay)

Prep:
-Pop the 2 clips holding the hi voltage wire off the cowling.
-Pull 2 clips holding the nearby black wire too.
-Remove 4 clips holding the cowling to the body
-there are also 2 other clips holding part of the firewall or something you can remove if you want to.
-cleaned the area with soapy rag then wiped with a clean rag after to avoid spraying excess water on the motor. I also used a small electric blower to help remove excess water that got into the weather stripping.
-I did not sand this but did do a final dust wipe down with a little alcohol to remove dust as I was just doing this under my carport.

masking:
the only thing I can say is that once you remove the 4 clips holding the cowling, The entire thing can be pulled up some to insert masking paper under it to avoid taping. the rest is sort of figuring it out but it wasn't 100% full proof.

Painting:
-generally I just followed the instruction on the cans.
-I got around 6 coats out of the spray can. it consisted of 2 continuous passes across. One low and one high to hit both areas of the cowling and small touch ups at the sides as the windshield wiper reservoir makes it hard to paint in the corner.
-I did about the same amount of passes in clear.
-I waited around 20 minutes then removed all the masking tape and paper. There was slight pealing around the weather stripping at the top due to tucking the masking tape in as close as possible.
-I did get some overspray and did a wipe down of the whole front end to the top of the windshield. It wasnt much and some isopropyl alcohol took it off pretty easy.

decal:
-should have laid them out first before applying but they ended up offset. I'll probably something to put on the end to balance it out. They will pull paint up if not careful, the M slightly did it when I readjusted it.

I need paint to finish curing and I'll likely take a little polishing compound to it to bring out the rest of the shine.

Looks good it seemed easier to tape it off but I would have taken it off to be safe and make sure paint coverage is even.

I was planning to take it off entirely but realized I didnt have the tool to remove the wiper arms as its pressed on and essentially needs a gear puller to take off. otherwise it comes off pretty easily.

Did you search by paint code instead of name "alto blue" some have multiple names for same color.

you just need to submit by paint code. Alto Blue goes by a few codes:
L3, LB, LDXEWTA, M7439A .

L3 and LB are formerly used version.
LDXEWTA is the pearl version on lincolns.
M7439A is the metallic we're using.

Its not properly listed on their site but it can probably be requested.

Alto blue is a tri stage. That's why you won't see it. Most online paint stores won't carry tri stage products. I had mine mixed at the paint and body parts store. You can have them put into an aerosol spray can. I would also use plastic prep and adhesion promoter on the plastic before putting down the basecoat.
